Netflix’s upcoming Bastard!! anime is ready to blow our minds with its ghastly themes and the lunatic overpowered magician, Dark Schneider.
While the manga has controversial traits, it didn’t stop the franchise from gaining a cult following as many grew to love the character and the story. The popularity then inspired a six-episode OVA in the 90s, but that wasn’t enough for fans.
So, the franchise is now back with another anime adaptation of Bastard!! -Heavy Metal, Dark Fantasy- set to premiere on 30 June, 2022.
Netflix has revealed an English-subtitled trailer previewing the anime’s opening theme, ‘Bloody Power Frame’ by coldrain.
The video starts on a dramatic note as Tio Noto Yoko breaks the seal and frees Dark Schneider. But why would anyone release an evil magician? Because they need him to fight their battles.
As the God of Destruction Anthrasax’s threat looms over the kingdom, the high priest is forced to bring back Dark Schneider, the only one who can save them.
However, as soon as he’s freed, the unhinged magician returns to his destructive and womanizing behavior. With a narcissistic attitude and all the power in the world, Dark Schneider begins to gather his crew and prepares to destroy Anthrasax.
The franchise has also revealed that Mami Koyama will be playing the role of Anthrasax. Koyama has also voiced Balalaika in Black Lagoon and Miki in City Hunter.
Even though it has been serialized in the Weekly Shonen Jump magazine, the manga is unlike any other shonen story you’ve seen. Instead of a pure-hearted protagonist who puts his life on the line for others, Bastard!! gave us an evil, omnipotent, and self-centered magician who wants to take over the world.
That’s the major reason I’m excited to see what the anime has in store for us this time.
