Baldur’s Gate 3’s creators at Larian Studios are working tirelessly to create the ideal full-fledged RPG game with a wealth of side quests and mythology to explore. According to the creators, the finished version of Baldur’s Gate 3 has 174 hours of cutscenes.
In an interview with Steam, Larian Studios boss Swen Vincke revealed that at full release, Baldur’s Gate 3 will be a hefty 122GB with no pre-loading support ahead of the launch on August 3rd at 8 am PT.
Unfortunately we’re unable to make Baldur’s Gate 3 available for pre-load — Steam doesn’t support pre-load for Early Access titles because switching to pre-load would break the game for people currently playing Early Access.

Vincke also mentioned that “the early access save games will not be compatible at launch.” He mentioned plenty of changes in the game since early access to ensure that it is worth starting afresh.
Vincke revealed a “few bytes that are the same” from the early access that lasted for three years. However, for the most part, Baldur’s Gate 3, at launch, will be a complete reinstall.
A pre-install option is necessary for some players with slow or unreliable connections to avoid issues on launch day.
Simply put, pre-install was removed to make life easier for Steam. This is because Baldur’s Gate 3 has been in early access for three years, so Steam will have difficulty keeping the files encrypted until launch.
Last month, Larian Studios revealed that a completionist Baldur’s Gate 3 run would take 200 hours. Fans are excited at the prospect of such a vast world with so many character classes at their disposal.
The game’s length would make sense, given there could be over 17000 endings. However, all the endings will not differ vastly – most will be minor variants of some essential endings.
Larian Studios clarified that Baldur’s Gate 3 will feature cross-save compatibility across PC, Steam Deck, and PlayStation 5. However, the PlayStation 5 edition will have to be purchased separately.
With the release date inching closer, players are excited at having such a vast world to explore in Baldur’s Gate 3, with many characters that can be customized to the player’s liking.
