Fiona opened up in a wide-ranging interview with Piers Morgan, but the woman who inspired Baby Reindeer swiped at The Sun columnist just hours before their chat was due to air.
She wrote online: “Piers is a twerp, but we already know this.
“You will see in my interview.”
1. What did Fiona Harvey say on Piers Morgan’s Uncensored YouTube show?
Hoping to set the record straight, Fiona accuses the show’s writer, Richard Gadd, of “making money out of untrue facts”.
As Fiona said on Piers Morgan Uncensored:
“We’ve had no apologies from Netflix or him, nothing. I mean, I’ve had no apology from someone who says he feels sorry for me.
“My character seems to have smashed up a bar, sexually assaulted him in a canal, been to prison. There are a number of other allegations, and… That’s not true.”
2. How was she identified as the real-life Martha?
On being ‘outed’ as the ‘real-life Martha’ online within hours of the show dropping on Netflix, she told Piers: “On the internet, sleuths tracked me down and hounded me and gave me death threats. So, it wasn’t a choice. I was forced into this situation.”
When Piers asked Fiona if she’d watched Baby Reindeer, she replied: “Not at all. I’ve heard about the court scene, about the jail sentences and all this sort of stuff… I haven’t watched any of it.”
You’re not curious, too?” Piers added.
“No, I think I’d be sick. It’s taken over enough of my life. I find it quite obscene. I find it horrifying and misogynistic.
“Some of the death threats have been terrible online. People are phoning me up. You know, it’s been horrendous.
“I wouldn’t give credence to something like that and it’s not really my kind of drama.”
3. What did Fiona say about Gadd?
On Gadd, she said to Piers: “I just generally think he’s got extreme psychiatric problems… It’s a work of fiction. It’s a work of hyperbole, as I’ve always said.
“And there are two true facts in that. His name is Richard Gadd, and he works as a jobbing barman on benefits in the Hawley Arms. And we met, two or three times…”
Asked by Piers whether she told Gadd he looked like a baby reindeer toy she had as a child, Fiona answered: “I had a toy reindeer and he’d shaved his head, that bit is true, and there were reindeers in the shops because it was Christmas time or something. It was a joke. So, I have inadvertently penned the name of the show.”
4. Did Fiona send those emails to Gadd?
When Piers pressed her on the 41,000 emails, 350 hours of voice messages, 744 tweets, 48 Facebook messages, and 106 letters she allegedly sent Gadd, she replied: “That’s simply not true. If somebody was sending somebody 41,000 emails or something, they’d be doing how many a day? Lots.”
Pushed further by Piers, she admitted there “may have been a couple of emails… A handful, if that… Less than ten”
And regarding the number of times, she allegedly tweeted Gadd, she told Piers, “I may have done years and years ago… No, it wasn’t numerous. It’s about 18 tweets.”
Piers asked Fiona if she’d ever attacked one of Gadd’s girlfriends during a jealous rage, to which she replied: “No, I don’t think he had a girlfriend. I think he’s, say, homosexual.
“But no, I have never been to his house or attacked any girlfriend or anything like that.”
No. Absolutely no… This is a fictional character. Hyperbole, exaggeration. This is a fiction. It’s based on his imagination.”
She also denied ever contacting his parents.
During the interview, Fiona and Piers watched a clip showing Martha pleading guilty to intimidating Gadd’s character, Donny, and being sentenced to nine months in prison.
Piers then asked Fiona whether she’d ever been charged or spent time in prison.
She replied “no” to both questions before adding: “That’s completely untrue. Very, very defamatory to me, very career damaging.
“And I wanted to rebut that completely on this show. I’m not a stalker. I’ve not been to jail, I’ve not got injunctions, interdicts. This is just complete nonsense.”
When the Uncensored host asked if she was ever in love with Gadd, she responded: “Piers. Is that a serious question? No… I gave him the brush off.
“He asked me to sleep with him with a big green spot on his face one day. I said no, I’m sorry, I’m not interested.
She added: “I’ve got a boyfriend’. I gave him the brush off big time, I think, you know, subtly so.
“But the bottom line is… No, I don’t fancy little boys without jobs. That sounds awful. That sounds really, really callous. But you know.”
Turning the tables on the host, Fiona asked Piers how much he thinks Gadd has made from the hit Netflix show, to which he replied that it could be “several millions.”
In response, Fiona said: “I think he’s done bloody well out of defaming me… He’s making money out of untrue facts. He’s been the ultimate misogynist.”
Piers also asked Fiona what message she had for Gadd if he was watching, and she replied: “Leave me alone, please. Get a life, get a proper job. I am horrified at what you’ve done. “
When Piers asked Fiona in the Uncensored interview whether she would take legal action against Gadd, she answered: “Absolutely against both him and Netflix.
5. Is Fiona Suing Piers Morgan?
The woman who inspired the hit Netflix show “Baby Reindeer” bares her soul in the process of claiming that she was wrongly portrayed on the show, defamed by both the streamer and Richard Gadd, its creator, and exploited by Piers Morgan during a personal interview, last week—and now she’s threatening to sue for several damages.
Harvey is also demanding £1m from Piers Morgan after an interview she gave him received over 2.6 million views in just five days.
Accordingly, Harvey told The Daily Record, a Scottish tabloid, that initially, she was offered £250 pounds to do the interview, but demand has risen because it has gone viral.
During her interview with Morgan, Harvey hinted about taking legal action against the British tabloid Daily Mail without giving reasons.
6. Is Fiona Speaking the Truth?
A body language expert has pointed out several inconsistencies the alleged ‘real’ Martha from Netflix’s Baby Reindeer displayed during her tell-all Piers Morgan interview. After several people went looking for the real woman online, Fiona Harvey identified herself as the inspiration for Richard Gadd’s character.
Jesús Enrique Rosas, also known as The Body Language Guy, analyzed the interview for himself and claimed her testimony is full of ‘inconsistencies’ – and that Harvey “butchers” her own statement several times throughout the chat. Rosas explained the first body language clue – blinking.
When explaining how often Harvey met Gadd, she said, “only two or three times,” followed by blinking rapidly. Rosas said: “Blinking is one of the easiest ways to detect an emotional response.”
He continued: “In this case you see some fluttering, or rapid blinking, right after she says, ‘I’ve only met this guy two or three times, I don’t know him.’ That fast blinking could be nervousness, but at the same time it could be part of her baseline, or body language expression.”
In another clip, Harvey is seen closing her eyelids faster, which Rosas claims indicates that it’s not a response she always does.
Rosas continued: “This time she doesn’t have the rapid blinking but she presses her lips right after saying that ‘yes, she’s sure that she’s not the woman depicted on the show.’ Pressing the lips is another emotional marker that can signal frustration, being upset, nervous or other moderate to strong emotions.”
