If you liked the setting of Palm Springs, a sci-fi rom-com where the Brooklyn Nine-Nine actor, Andy Samberg, plays with time, you would surely like his upcoming film with Jean Smart. 42.6 Years, brought to you by Amazon Studios. Samberg will play a cryogenically frozen man who looks the same after almost half a century.
The film will be directed by Craig Gillespie, who you’ll know from Pam & Tommy, Cruella, and I, Tonya. The director will capture the story of a young man who must undergo an experimental procedure to survive – he lives, but even 42.6 years later, looks the same. Now he must face a lonely world with no one to support him other than his now much older ex-girlfriend.
The Palm Springs actor will play the male lead beside Hacks’ Jean Smart, who will play his now older ex. Samberg co-wrote the film’s script with Seth Reiss, the talent behind the widely acclaimed 2022 film, The Menu. Samberg is also producing under his company banner, Party Over Here, along with Gillespie, and Ali Bell.
The cast, crew, or Amazon Studios have shared no news about the beginning of production or confirmed release date. But the announcement shared by The Hollywood Reporter paints an interesting picture of the upcoming film, putting a unique and untried twist to the rom-com genre.
It’s too soon to tell whether the film will be granted a small theatrical window before hitting Prime Video, but we’ll keep you updated on the movie as soon as any new information is brought to light.
