The Awajima Hyakkei (One Hundred Views of Awajima) manga series is being adapted into an anime. This coming-of-age omnibus series follows the girls at a music academy, with each chapter centering around a different girl.
An adolescent drama and romance, Awajima Hyakkei is about a group of young girls who attend a “girls-only musical school.” The story depicts the most formative years of their lives and all the times they shared through multiple eyes.
The story unfolds in a unique environment, a “boarding house” that is actually the Awajima Musical School Training Camp. Here, girls from all over Japan gather to perform on stage, creating a dynamic and competitive atmosphere that serves as both a haven and a battlefield.
Ahead of the release of the final volume of Takako Shimura’s coming-of-age, yuri manga series Awajima Hyakkei, the official Twitter account for publisher Ohta Web Comics announced that the series will be adapted into an anime.
The format and more details, such as the cast, staff, and release date of the anime, were not announced at this stage.
Awajima Hyakkei began in June 2011 and came to an end in March 2024. The series was released sporadically, with many ups and downs, and there were 31 chapters in total.
Awajima Hyakkei was initially serialized on Ohta Publishing’s PocoPoco website. However, PocoPoco went under, so the manga was moved to Ohta Web Comic in July 2016. The manga went on hiatus for three years in 2019 and resumed monthly serialization in January 2022.
The manga again went on hiatus in August 2022 and resumed in November 2023. The fifth and final volume will be released in Japan on May 15, 2024. Ohta Publishing Company has released the cover of the final manga volume.
Awajima Hyakkei’s author, Shimura, is best known for her successful works such as Horou Musuko and Aoi Hana, both of which have inspired anime adaptations. Interestingly, Awajima Hyakkei is set in the same universe as Aoi Hana, promising a rich and interconnected storytelling experience.
With three anime adaptations under her belt, we look forward to seeing more of Shimura’s works. Currently, not much is known about the Awajima Hyakkei anime adaptation, but rest assured, we will keep you updated.
