The television series and manga of Attack on Titan may have reached their conclusion, but the popular anime franchise still has some surprises in store. In an unexpected twist, the Scout Regiment is set to make a comeback in a feature-length film, Attack on Titan: The Last Attack, which has just been announced for theatrical release. Though the story of the Survey Corps has officially ended, fans of Eren Jaeger, Mikasa, Armin, and the other residents of Paradis Island have more to look forward to.
Farewell To Attack on Titan: THE LAST ATTACK
Attack on Titan: The Last Attack will premiere in Japanese theaters on November 8th of this year. However, those anticipating new content or a sequel to Hajime Isayama’s intense series might be disappointed, as the movie is being billed as a “compilation.” The film has a confirmed runtime of 145 minutes, just under two and a half hours, and will cover significant ground in the battle against Eren Jaeger, as seen in the final episodes of the anime’s fourth season.
Although this trailer or the new movie doesn’t feature new footage or serve as a sequel to the original ending, MAPPA studio has confirmed that the scenes from the television series are updated to fit perfectly for the movie. As of now, there has been no official word on The Last Attack making its way to North America. However, given the growing popularity of anime in the West, it’s a safe bet that the movie will eventually reach U.S. theaters.
What To Expect From The Movie
This movie will consolidate both parts of Attack on Titan Final Season: The Final Chapters into one cohesive film. Series director Yuichiro Hayashi, who helmed the original episodes, shared that:
I originally drew the storyboards with the idea that it would be watched as a single movie. So, having the opportunity to have everyone watch it in the best possible environment, the theater, is a dream come true for me.
He expressed his excitement about having the chance for audiences to experience it in theaters, where the visuals and audio have been upgraded for the big screen. The film will feature an upgraded 5.1 surround sound and a new theme song by Linked Horizon, “To You 2,000… or… 20,000 Years From Now…” a fitting reference to the saga’s epic narrative.
