Trailers provide amazing insight on what to expect but also make fans over-analyze and get confused. It makes us long to know the story.
So let us delve into the recently released trailer and poster of Season 4 of the Attack on Titan anime and analyze (if not over-analyze) it. The trailer parallels the premiere of the 1st season of the anime before flipping over and taking a completely different turn.
The video opens with one of the new characters, Falco, lying on the battlefield, injured and reaching out towards a bird, trying to make it fly away from the place. This could be paralleled to the start of season 1 when Eren watched the geese fly free from the walls before the entire Shiganshina district was demolished by the Colossal Titan.
In both cases, the kids were striving for freedom. The similarities don’t end right there. The ending half of the trailer shows Eren’s Titan attacking a city just like what the Colossal Titan did to his hometown years ago. There is a small difference here, though.
The Colossal Titan had an army of mindless titans with him. Eren is the only titan fighting for his cause here. There are more titans featured in the trailer like the War Hammer titan who was attacking Eren and old-established enemies like the Cart and Armored Titan.
Sealing Eren and his titan in a darker tone is the poster for season 4. It shows Reiner standing in the rubble of his own town and looking up as Eren looms over him.
This is similar to the posters of both Part 1 and Part 2 of season 1, which show Eren standing in a burning town as the Colossal Titan looms over the wall and Misaka standing in front of the female titan within the walls respectively. Though Reiner doesn’t look like he wants to fight, he has no weapons, and his stance isn’t proud, unlike the other two posters.
Season 4 poster is also filled with casualties that the season 1 poster lacked. Eren’s hand is bloody and looks ready to strike the city. The poster is committed to depicting Eren as a killer, and Reiner has been put more in focus. All this could point to the fact that there might be a shift in perspective in this season.
One thing is sure – the last season of Attack on Titan will be an enjoyable ride for the fans. The anime has always kept fans in suspense and everyone is eager to know how the ending plays out. With the poster and trailer pitting Eren in the same herd as the colossal titan, the fans might finally have their answers about Eren’s worth as a protagonist.
The final season of Attack on Titan is slated to release this fall. You can find all the information on the fourth season of Shingeki no Kyojin below:
