Episode 8 shook us with the death of our ‘Potato girl,’ Sasha, and with this heartbreaking incident, Gabi has successfully enlisted her name among the most hated characters in the history of anime.
Unlike most of us, Jean didn’t blame Gabi for all this bloodshed. Instead, he considers Eren responsible for dragging the Survey Corps into this mess.
Keeping aside the tragedy, the episode also revealed the mastermind of this operation to be Zeke Yeager. But when did he change sides? What made the two Yeager brothers unite? We bring you the latest episode updates for this anime.
1. Episode 9 Preview and Speculations
In the preview video, we see Mikasa sitting beside Sasha’s grave. We also see flashbacks of Sasha, which suggests that the next episode will make us emotional once again. Maybe things could have been better in some other way, but no one can change the past, and the Survey Corps have to keep fighting for the freedom of Eldians.
Episode 9 will take us to the funeral of Sasha Blouse. With a heavy heart, all the soldiers will pay their last tribute towards their food-loving friend. Now it’s up to them to make sure this sacrifice doesn’t go in vain.
The ‘volunteers’ referred to in the episode title may refer to Zeke, Yelena, and their unit. The episode will also explain how Zeke got involved in this operation and what are his true intentions. Moreover, I am looking forward to knowing how he convinced Levi and others to trust him after everything he did.

I. Is Attack on Titan on Break This Week?
Episode 9 of Attack on Titan: The Final Season will be released as per schedule. No such delay has been announced.
3. Episode 8 Recap
I. Fall of the Armored Titan
Reiner transforms into the Armored Titan and stands before Eren as a last line of resistance. However, it was an incomplete and weak transformation that doesn’t stand a chance against Eren’s Attack titan.
Luckily, Reiner somehow manages to save Porco from getting devoured, and with this ephemeral fight, Eren reaches his limit and retreats to the airship.
II. Eren Yaeger Detained
Eren gets detained for his reckless actions that endangered not only countless innocent lives but also the lives of his teammates.
Captain Levi kicks him on sight, somewhat recreating the epic kicking scene we saw in Season 1. I am sure all of us must have felt a bit of satisfaction since Eren deserves this treatment for using his teammates to accomplish his own plan.
III. A Brief Moment of Happiness
Most of the Paradis soldiers escape to the airship, and there are six reported deaths. This loss is nothing compared to the immense damage they have given to the Marleyan government. Thus, the soldiers are seen celebrating the first victory of the Pradis forces.
Meanwhile, Connie is glad to find his two best friends safe. He hugs both of them on their victory, but Sasha, as usual, is more concerned about her meal. This warm reunion of Connie-Sasha-Jean trio surely brings back memories to all old fans.
IV. Sasha’s Tragic Death
Gabi is consumed by hatred after the deaths of Udo and Zophia. She grabs a gun and heads towards the airship. Falco tries to stop her by explaining the enemy’s side of the story.
But nothing was enough to convince Gabi. After all, she is more like a mirror image of what Eren was, and it seems the burning urge of revenge has ripped off her ability to think rationally.
Gabi shoots down Lobov and uses his equipment to sneak into Paradis’s airship as Falco follows her. She immediately fires a round at the celebrating soldiers that hits Sasha.
Falco jumps on her to stop her from firing any further. The soldiers beat them down and restrain them. They even thought of dropping them out from the airship.
Sadly, Sasha bleeds to death, totally nullifying all the efforts of Connie and Jean to keep her alive. She mumbles, “Are we…eating soon?” and “Meat,” before losing consciousness. (Yes, by this time my eyes were blurry with tears.)
All these bloodsheds and miseries over the years have largely affected the personality of all the main characters, with Sasha being the only exception who remained the same. No one other than Sasha could have chosen these words even at her dying moment.
V. The Real Mastermind
Jean believes that dropping two kids from the airship won’t stop this senseless streak of killing. He guides Falco and Gabi to the real mastermind of this operation, who are shocked to find Zeke Yeager in the room.
Levi discusses the entire operation and the mock battle with the Beast Titan in front of the two kids. Zeke himself states that everything was according to plan for the most part. However, there were few ‘miscalculations,’ and by ‘miscalculations’ he meant Falco and Gabi.
Connie arrives to convey the death news of Sasha, and everyone was struck with grief. The painful episode ends with Eren laughing madly as if he finally understands that nothing can stop this catastrophe no matter how hard he tries.
