Attack on Titan Season 4 is finally here, after making the fans wait for more than a year! However, the first episode makes it look like the final season was truly worth the wait. All the plot points of the anime will converge in this season.
Season 3 ended, leaving the audience with their mouths wide open, as a whole new world outside the Paradis island was revealed.
The protagonists realized that the world outside the walls was quite contrary to anything they had expected. In place of much-sought heaven, they discovered a world wrecked with wars.
The World Outside the Walls
Outside the walls surrounding the Paradis island, lays an expanse of ocean and the nation of Marley. To sustain its global position, Marley uses its Eldian citizens and their trait of transformation into Titans to win wars.
I. New Faces
Episode 1 of the final season doesn’t feature our main protagonists, and we soon realize that it’ll take some time for them to enter the scene. Instead, we are introduced to some new characters, Falco, Gabi, Udo, and Zofia.
They are the candidates for inheriting the power of the Armored Titan.
These innocent children compete against each other to win the honor of being a titan. As we already know, this honor is short-lived due to the effects that the transformation has on the host’s lifespan.
The series is very deft at making the viewers attached to characters. It is also adept at disposing of said characters. Through experience, we are in fear of the fate of these new characters.
II. Portrayal of Marley
Marley is currently in the middle of a four-year war against the Mid-East Allies. Soldiers who are shell-shocked due to bombs and firing are shown.
The government and higher authority are corrupt, and the citizens and soldiers have to pay the price for it. This image is all too similar to the one that we have seen in Paradis.
However, the Eldians and Marleyans alike preach the propaganda that the government has taught them. The scenes from the battlefront are gory and brutal, yet no one dares question its sanity.
The Eldians inhabiting Marley think that being chosen to serve as a titan in the battles is a matter of immense honor, even though it is the same power because of which Marley treats them like evil beings.
The Cruel Fate of Eldians
In the war, we get to see the cruel way in which Marley uses Eldians. An aircraft flies above the battlefield with neutralized Eldians strapped to it. They are dropped from the aircraft and transform mid-air. The scene is monstrous, to say the least.
We know for a fact that Falco and the other candidates will have to face Eren and his companions.
The Eldians will have to fight against their kind because of a delusional world. Fans should get ready to confront despair, no matter what side they support.
