Attack on Titan season 4 episode 10 may seem a bit lacklustre compared to the other episodes, but it gives us a dive inside Eren’s mind. The Azumabito, who seemed like helpful people at first, also turned out to be nothing more than gold-diggers.
Eren seems to be on edge ever since the episode began. He seems to have lost trust in everybody else. Internally, he has shouldered the burden of saving Paradis all by himself. His outburst at Hange shows that he is slowly losing faith in others.
Hange has to face the question, “What is it you can actually do?” Although she manages to look calm, we all know that the survey corps are pulling at straws.
1. Mikasa’s Past
This far, Mikasa’s past has only been shown with Eren and Armin. Her descent was only mentioned once in the first season when the bandits who killed her parents said that her mother was from the orient.
Episode 69 clarifies that she is the last descendant of the shogun clan. A member of the Shogun clan had stayed at Paradis when the walls had been closed off. Thus Mikasa belongs to the Azumabito clan.
2. Why are the Azumabito Helping Paradis?
Though the Azumabito family seemed to have noble intentions at first, the reality is not quite so. They are more interested in Paradis’s natural resources that can serve as a futuristic energy source for countries.
The Special fuel called “Iceburst Stone” can be found in Paradis, and it can even power anti-titan gears. The Azumabito want solo control over this fuel, and thus Paradis’s survival is skin to them.
3. Historia’s Pregnancy
Historia has been shown as pregnant in the latest episode. However, her face is blank. Fans are questioning if she ever wanted to be pregnant. She is already facing the distasteful stares of people due to her decision even though she is of royal blood.
Her child may be of importance as there is a chance that it can inherit a titan if a titan holder dies. Although, her fate is not entirely clear yet.
4. Discord Amongst Friends
Conny mutters, “That guy is not Eren,” and recalls how Eren had laughed when Sasha was dying. However, this scene is reminiscent of Hannes’s death in Season 2. When a titan ate Hannes, Eren was laughing and crying at the same time.
He could not transform and save Hannes, and his weakness led him to burst out in a bitter laugh. He may have been reminded of Hannes when Sasha dies. No one other than Mikasa witnessed Eren’s state in season 2, and she cannot express his feelings in words.
Eren’s solo action had, no doubt, hurt his allies. They question why Eren has no qualms about putting others in danger now. Eren understands the reality. While Armin talks about peace, Eren knows that the enemy is not merciful.
Mikasa and Armin promise that they will talk to Eren and ask what is on his mind. However, will Eren open up anymore? Especially now that he thinks that he is a lone soldier.
