Attack on Titan’s season 4 episode 5 is out, and it has got to be one of the most emotionally charged episodes till date. Although most of the episode involves a conversational scene, the tension heightens with time.
Eren will earn the name of an anti-hero from this episode onwards, and many fans will start questioning his actions. Don’t worry because you aren’t going to be the only one. Manga readers are already having it much worse.
MAPPA posted a tweet for the release of the episode showing Eren healing his leg.
Eren infiltrates Marley when they least expect it, with the powers of the Attack Titan and the Founding Titan. The next episode will be titled, “The War Hammer Titan” which will reveal who holds the power in the Tybur family.

So let’s get into the episode’s details without delay.
The whole episode shows a parallel storytelling technique. On one hand, we have Willy Tybur’s speech, and on the other, we have Reiner and Eren’s conversation. Both are equally important and bring to light some crucial facts.
- The Real History Of Paradis
Willy at first talks about the history of Marley and the Eldians as everybody knows it. However, soon he shifts to reality and explains that Helos was just a hero set up by King Fritz and the Tybur family.
King Fritz is not a threat to the world but the person who took steps to ensure peace. He took as many Eldians with him as possible, shut off the Paradis island, and renounced war.
Many jaws were left hanging as they saw the lies behind their known history change in front of their eyes.
- Willy’s Manipulation
Just as you think that Willy has chosen Eldians over Marley, you are proved wrong. He declares that the founding titan is now with Eren Yeager, and the whole world is currently under threat.
He unifies the audience by creating a common enemy. Eren is made into a living-breathing target.
- “I’m the same as you.”
The conversation between Reiner and Eren is truly a masterpiece. Even though they are just talking, I got goosebumps due to Eren’s coldness.
Their positions are completely reversed in comparison to the first season of the anime. Eren, the weak and crying mess, has turned into someone who has forgotten his smile and can destroy Reiner by just his presence.
Eren says that he is just the same as Reiner. He wants to keep moving forward till he has exterminated the enemy. Reiner wrought destruction on Eren’s hometown to save the world.
What he didn’t realize is that he is destroying the worlds of many for his own ideals. Eren is now on the same path and unapologetically so.
In the last minute of the episode, Eren transforms into his titan form and destroys the building which stood above the underground room in which they were talking.
A lot of lives were lost, and Willy was tossed in the air and will meet his death soon.
“The title of the episode, Declaration of War,” has served its purpose because now there is no going back. Eren has just confirmed his status as a threat in front of ambassadors of the whole world, and Willy’s words have found their mark.
What comes after will be the ultimate race to see who wins the inevitable war.
