- The successor arrives hot on the heels of the ASUS ROG Ally released in June 2023.
Handheld gaming consoles are on the rise, mainly because of the power that comes with the portability. ASUS has already amassed a good following with their ROG Ally Handheld this year, and they are looking to keep up the good work.
The information stems from a statement provided to Techlusive by Vice President of Asus India, Arnold Su, that Asus is “looking to keep up the momentum” and plans to release the ASUS ROG Ally 2 in 2024. The successor will feature Windows as the OS but will be tweaked for a better focus on gaming.
The ASUS ROG Ally was released in June 2023 amidst much excitement for fans of the handheld console segment. It faced stiff competition from the Lenovo LEGION handheld and the Steamdeck.
Despite the hurdles, it fared pretty well in the market, especially in the Indian Market, where it sold 70000 to 80000 pieces. The ROG Ally was available in two specifications.
The base model featured a Ryzen Z1 APU, while the higher-end counterpart featured a Ryzen Z1 Extreme APU. Everything else was identical, with 512 GB Of NVMe storage. The Base model was priced at USD 599, and the premium model was available at USD 699.
However, despite all the hardware and software in ROG Ally that packs a punch, the ROG Ally seemed to be lacking in quite a few aspects.
This includes a short battery life and ergonomics that call for improvements in the successive generation. An improvement in the storage will be a welcome bonus. However, until official confirmation, players might have to wait on the handheld console front.
