The Nvidia RTX 4060 Ti’s 16 GB variant will be released soon, as per the previous announcement by Nvidia and confirmed by embargo timeline details via leaker @Zed__Wang.
ASUS has recently revealed their upcoming ROG Strix GeForce RTX 4060 Ti OC Edition based on the 16 GB variant of the 4060 Ti, which is set to release on 18th July 2023. The card features a cyberpunk-esque stylization with a 3.1-slot design. This card has been priced at 4699 RMB, equivalent to USD 650, much higher than Nvidia’s suggested MSRP of USD 499.
The card has a compact design and is only 311.4 mm long. This has been designed keeping in mind the various types of PC cases.
The RTX 4060Ti 16 GB is based on the AD106 GPU built on the Ada Lovelace architecture. There are several power and efficiency improvements, meaning the card draws less power for the same performance compared to its predecessors, i.e., the RTX 3060 Ti.
The reduced power draw means that an 8-pin power connector suffices. The three axial fans spin on dual-ball bearings, propelling 21% more air through the card than previous cards. The central fan spins clockwise while the two fans flanking it spin counter-clockwise to maximize air dispersion through the heatsink.
All fans stop when the GPU temperature is below 55 Celsius based on the 0 dB technology for no sound when doing non-GPU intensive tasks. The component and trace layouts have also been optimized into a short PCB to reduce power losses and a large backplate vent has been added to dissipate heat.
For those with an eye for aesthetics, the Aura Sync ensures that the RTX 4060 Ti is always colorful unless the user chooses to switch off the lights in the Dark mode. There are a total of 10 lighting modes to choose from.
Despite all these features, the AD106 that the RTX 4060 Ti is based on has a 128-bit memory bus. The RTX 4070 has a 192-bit memory bus and 12GB of GDDR6X VRAM.
The RTX 4070 Founder’s Edition comes for RMB 4799, just 100 RMB more than the ASUS ROG STRIX RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB variant. This means that the RTX 4070, having 36% better performance, priced at RMB 4400, is 300 RMB cheaper than ASUS’s new card.
Thus, it makes no sense for the partners to push this card into the market or market it. The situation might even be more severe than anticipated by Nvidia, mainly because of the pricey offerings like the ROG STRIX RTX 4060 Ti by ASUS.
Buyers are becoming increasingly dissatisfied with Nvidia’s pricing choices. The exorbitant pricing is something that Nvidia must keep an eye out for. Otherwise, seeing Nvidia loyalists’ defect to AMD’s Radeon graphics or Intel’s ARC GPUs won’t be surprising.
