Assassin’s Creed Valhalla poses a challenge to its audience with a new complicated quest as soon as they get done with one. The task of finding people out and stealthily getting away with all the chaos is a must to complete a quest swiftly. The quest Tilting the Balance must be dealt with in the same way. This quest will be available to a player after completing The Walls of Templebrough quest, and it is a little tricky to get through it. The mission tasks you to find out the location of King Burgred, Abduct him, and bring him back to Tamworth Fortress. Sounds easy enough, right?
Not really! The problem is that the game will not provide you with any marker on the King’s location. To get an approximate vicinity where the King could be present, you have to interrogate Queen Aethelswith.
If you are struggling with figuring out the location of the King or questioning Aethelswith, worry not; this walkthrough will deal with all the nitty-gritty of the mission in detail, so buckle up and get ready to dive in.
Grilling Queen Aethelswith to Reveal the Location of King Burgred
The quest starts at Tamworth Fortress, where you have to meet with Ubba Ragnarsson and Sigurd. After that, run to the primary objective marker and head inside the building to talk to Queen Aethelswith. In the long cutscene which follows, you have to make some choices to make her spew out the hiding location of the King.
She may act like an uncrackable nut but do not worry as the choices you get are merely for the personal selection of the player, and all of them lead to the same result. The options do not have any significant effect on the outcome of this Interrogation. You can choose to be either offensive or sympathetic to her. In both cases, Ivarr will step in and roll out three severed human heads on the floor, triggering the Queen to give in and reveal the area where her husband is hiding.
Hunting down the King’s Location
Queen Aethelswith will reveal that King Burgred is hiding in an old crypt to the south of Ledecestrescire, where the Alne and Arwy rivers join.
In the image below, you can see where you have to travel. However, the location will not be marked when you attempt the quest for the first time.
The hideout is northeast of the Junction of the two rivers. The question mark in the image is the place you need to head to. This is Offchurch, the place where the King is hiding. The Crypt is located around the large boulder. If you use the Odin Sight, you will be able to see a guard downstairs with a key behind the door.
Unfortunately, the door is locked, and you have to detour and go behind the Crypt to find another way inside. There is a small settlement behind which is crawling with many enemies.
It is recommended to take a stealthy approach to kill or pass through these men in order to avoid unnecessary trouble.
Abducting Burgred and Escaping back to Tamworth
Going deep into the Settlement, you will find the back entrance of the Crypt wide open, head down the double stairs.
You will reach the main room, head straight, up a few stairs, and after taking a right, you will come across the room where the guard with the Key is present. Take him out and loot the Key.
You can use this Key on the door of the room to the right. You will find King Burgred hiding inside this room.
After a small cutscene, you have to fight and capture him, which will be a relatively easy battle.
Tie Burgred up and carry him outside the Crypt. Mount the horse waiting outside and put the King on it too. Ride towards the new quest marker, and it will lead you to a new location Venonis, where Sigurd is waiting for you.
From here, you need to ride fast straight for Tamworth fortress as enemies will start chasing you down. You can choose to shoot them with arrows, but the better option is to ride fast and swiftly avoid them.
Once you hit the fortress, a cutscene will begin marking the completion of the Tilting the Balance quest.
The Crypt is Loaded with Numerous Valuable Loots and Items
Apart from the regular items which you can collect from all over the Crypt, there are also many essential items inside. These items are not required to complete the quest, but here is a guide on where to find the significant ones for those of you who want to collect every item in the game.
Book of Knowledge- Heading downstairs into the Crypt will lead you to the main room. There is a crack covered with spider webs on the right wall.
This crack will lead you to a space where you can find a book of knowledge.
Carbon Ingot- On the left side of the main room, there is a wooden shelf. Move the rack to reveal a small space below.
Crawl through this space, and you will find a chest containing a carbon ingot.
Fyrd Spear- Going straight ahead from the main room, up the stairs, and to the right will lead you to a small room. On the left of this room, there is a guard; defeating him will reveal space behind. This space is filled with water, dive down and open the chest below to collect the Fyrd Spear.
Sepulcher Axe- You can find it in a chest in the back corner of the room in which Burgred is hiding.
