Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla is the latest installment to the Assassin’s Creed franchise, released in November 2020. This game generated Ubisoft a whopping $1 billion in sales and became the second most profitable Ubisoft title in a little under a year.
Ubisoft announced that the title updates 1.7.0 addresses 13 outstanding issues and would receive the final bug fix update this week. The update comes out on Tuesday, 21st February 2023, at noon GMT.
The patch sizes from 15.1GB on the Xbox Series X|S, 9.9GB on the Xbox One, 0.5GB on PS5, 1.6GB on the PS4 and 6.3GB on the PC. This shows we can expect some significant gameplay improvements.
The changelog addresses the following improvements and bug fixes:
- River Raids
- The Captain at Katzenelnbogen isn’t counted when the kill is confirmed.
- Armory and Inventory
- Resolved most of the rare ere Light-Fingered skill prevented picking key items.
- Eivor’s hair can clip through the hood after completing an Animus Anomaly.
- Miscellaneous
- Resolved the error that occurs when trying to claim the weekly free item
- Gear packs still appear in the store when the pack’s content is already owned.
- Items incorrectly appear as owned in some situations
- The Korean language cannot be applied via the Steam Language tab
- It is possible to lose Helix Credits when purchasing the Twilight Set if 5/5 pieces of gear are already owned
- Issues with pricing of Helix Store Items when redeeming fragments of a full set.
- On Xbox, when buying Helix Credits through the store, they are not correctly added to the player inventory.
- In-game pop-ups no longer appear for Shared History and The last Chapter when launching into the game.
The reception for the majority of the updates to the game was lukewarm at best. The last chapter update that came out in December brought an end to Eivor’s story.
The last bug update was unexpected for many as the game had reached the end of its post-release roadmap. The changelog to the update on the official site doesn’t state that it’s the final update, so there could be more small fixes/patches to come.
Ubisoft is taking its time to ensure they don’t fall short of expectations this time. During the Assassin’s Creed showcase, four titles were announced in addition to multiplayer gameplay:
- Assassin’s Creed Mirage by Ubisoft Bordeaux
- Assassin’s Creed Infinity by Ubisoft Quebec and Montreal
- Assassin’s Creed Codename “Red” by Ubisoft Quebec
- Assassin’s Creed Codename “Hexe” by Ubisoft Montreal
- Assassin’s Creed Codename “Jade” for Android and iOS
- Assassin’s Creed Invictus as a standalone multiplayer.
Set for a release this year, the creative director listened to the community’s desire for a smaller-scale game and implemented it while developing Mirage right from the outset. Set in 9th-century Baghdad, it’s a “special tribute to the First Assassin’s Creed.”
Seeing a swift transition from the icy-cold Nordic to the warm medieval Middle East will be interesting. The gameplay is reportedly focused on stealth, parkour, and assassinations, returning to what it was before the RPG-style entries of Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla.
