Assassin’s Creed has been one of the most popular franchises since the launch of the first title in 2007. The “dealing from the shadows” stealth focus was the original formula of these games until Ubisoft decided to change things up with Assassin’s Creed Origins.
The franchise turned itself more into an open-world RPG game, and although Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla are good games in themselves, fans have repeatedly wanted the series to return to its roots.
Ubisoft might have heard these cries earlier this year when leaks about a stealth-focused title, Assassin’s Creed Mirage, codenamed Rift, had surfaced, which now has received new details.
Twitter user Script has revealed leaked cover art of Assassin’s Creed Mirage and the pre-order bonus “The Forty Thieves” mission that will come along with the game if you decide to splash your cash early.
So far it hasn’t been verified whether these images are legitimate or not, but it has been mentioned online that they appeared on the Ubisoft store for a moment. One of the covers has “The Forty Thieves” quest mentioned, which will be the pre-order bonus mission.
Pre-order missions have been part of the AC franchise for a long time, so it makes sense that Ubisoft will include one this time as well. The mission is probably based upon the popular tale with the same name in Iraqi folklore, which makes sense as the game is set in Baghdad.
Glancing at the cover art for the first time, you will get hit by nostalgia through the portrayal of the assassin. The iconic Assassin hood, along with a sword in one hand and the hidden blade in another, makes me remember the iconic eras of Ezio Auditore and Altair.
But well this time, the main protagonist wielding the hidden blade will be Basim. The name rings a bell, doesn’t it? Well, why won’t it as this is the same Basim featured in the latest title AC Valhalla.
It is rumored that the story is set between the years of 860 and 870 AD in Baghdad, during the Anarchy of Samarra focusing on the character arc of Basim, when he starts off young as a thief being drafted into the Hidden Ones.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage makes a return to the basics of the AC series and is strongly inspired by the first Assassin’s Creed. Although Ubisoft hasn’t confirmed any rumors yet, the game will reportedly launch sometime between April and June 2023.
