Ubisoft has had a pretty good run with Assassin’s Creed Mirage so far, with gameplay being officially revealed at the last PlayStation Showcase, which took place almost a week ago. The company aims to revitalize the franchise with the game releasing this October, albeit not as a full-blown game like its predecessors.
The scale of the game is a tad bit smaller, just like how Miles Morales was in comparison to Marvel’s Spider-Man, but it will heavily focus on stealth and parkour elements, which are reminiscent of the earlier titles in the series, and the game aims to take the franchise back to its roots. But this news can be a potential deal breaker for players.
A Reddit user by the name of r/Assured_Observer noticed that the Assassin’s Creed Mirage Xbox Store page has been updated, saying that the game will include “Real Gambling” and “Paid Contests,” along with other in-game purchases again.
It’s still unclear how this mechanic will work, but this implies that there might be gameplay systems that will allow players to spend real-world currency on gambling in the game. Now, this could very well be an error in the listing itself, but it’s Ubisoft after all, and the company has been often criticized for its monetization policies in their games.
What’s funny is that this isn’t the first time that the game’s ‘Adults Only rating’ included “Real Gambling” as it popped up when pre-orders went live last year too. Ubisoft was quick to deny any claims of the game having gambling or lootboxes. But it seems like it’s time for the company to clarify again if the game will have any lootboxes after all.
Everything that we’ve seen from the game looks incredible, but this “Real Gambling” thing could be worrying for fans as it’s a single-player game and lootboxes shouldn’t be there, let alone gambling, which sounds worse.
Interestingly, the PlayStation Store page doesn’t include this information, so it might not stick. But we can’t jump to any conclusions before Ubisoft makes an official statement on the matter.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage releases on October 12 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
About Assassin’s Creed Mirage
Assassin’s Creed Mirage is an action-adventure game developed by Ubisoft Bordeaux and published by Ubisoft. The game is the thirteenth primary installment in the Assassin’s Creed series and the successor to 2020’s Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. While its historical timeframe precedes that of Valhalla, its modern-day framing story succeeds Valhalla’s own.
Set in 9th-century Baghdad during the Islamic Golden Age—in particular during the Anarchy at Samarra—the story follows Basim Ibn Ishaq (a character first introduced in Valhalla), a street thief who joins the Hidden Ones to fight for peace and liberty against the Order of the Ancients,[b] who desire peace through control. The main narrative focuses on Basim’s internal struggle between his duties as a Hidden One and his desire to uncover his mysterious past.
