About Ashita no Joe

Ashita no Joe is a Japanese boxing manga series written by Asao Takamori (the alias of Japanese author and illustrator Ikki Kajiwara) and illustrated by Tetsuya Chiba.

Ashita no Joe was first serialized by Kodansha in Weekly Shonen Magazine from January 1, 1968 to May 13, 1973 and was later collected into 20 tankōbon volumes.

The story follows a young man named Joe Yabuki and his boxing career as a Bantamweight.

He falls into one of Tokyo’s slums and gets into a fight with a local gang and his street fighting skills get him the attention of a washed-up alcoholic boxing trainer. Joe still commits money-making scams and lands himself in prison.

While serving time, he meets another boxer named Rikiishi Tooru who gets Joe interested in boxing. Upon release, Joe then pursues a boxing career.
