Ash Was Supposed to Die, Reveals an Old Blog by Pokemon Author

It doesn’t matter if you have neither read nor watched the series but the names Pokémon and Pikachu are familiar to everyone in this generation.

This anime has made quite a name for itself for being child-friendly, but no one would have thought that the original writer had a dark twist to Pokémon in mind.

Writer Takeshi Shudowas, the brain behind the popular anime was responsible for Ash’s quests. In his final days, he had written blogs based on his experience working on the anime and it is here that we find some shiver-inducing facts.

In a translation of his blogs by Dr Lava, a Pokémon historian we find that Shudo had originally planned to end the film Mewtwo Strikes Back with Ash reminiscing all his adventures as an old man. Although this trope may seem to be acceptable, Shudo seemed to be hiding a far more shocking end.

It is evident that not only did he want to add twists to Ash’s fate, he did introduce dark topics in the Pokémon films that may go unnoticed to the inexperienced eye. A heavy dose of tranquillizers (legal ones available in pharmacies, on which he used to get high) also influenced his composition.

A translation of one of his blogs is posted here:

” Months and years pass. Ash grows old, then one day suddenly he looks back on his past. He remembers his childhood fondly. The adventures he had with his amazing Pokemon, the friendship, the coexistence…The next morning, he is woken up by his mother. He’s a young boy again, leaving his house excited to start a new adventure. He’s going on a journey not to catch Pokémon or become a Pokémon master, but to discover the meaning of existence, to discover how to coexist with others.”

This shows not only a simple reminiscence but also indicates the death of Ash. But of course, the company seems to have stopped Shudo from doing as he wished. Many of us think the anime is about coexistence.

Still, Shudo’ personal views say otherwise: “Moreover, the Pokemon obtained by humans is used as a fighting tool in the game. The Pokémon obtained by humans are slaves.”

According to him, the model of coexistence is shown in the Team Rocket trio with Meowth. These are a few of the dark but astounding views of the original mastermind behind Pokémon. Do catch up on the Pokémon films to understand his philosophy thoroughly.
