High school is truly one of the most defining moments of one’s life; it lies at the crossroads of understanding ourselves and the world outside.
Though for Tomoya, Aoi, and Ryō from the upcoming anime film Summer Ghost, it’s a time full of turmoil and despair. Nevertheless, all it takes is a spark to conjure up the light that can dispel all darkness, and these three are about to find that light on a sultry summer night.
The official Japanese educational service Z-Kai website began streaming the full version of animator and illustrator Loundraw’s “Both the Closest Yet Furthest Star” anime commercial on August 24, 2021.
For those wondering, the commercial is the “concept origin” or a short film for the artist Loundraw’s directorial debut, Summer Ghost, which will premiere on November 12, 2021.
The commercial’s story centers around Kaori, a reserved yet strong-willed member of the astronomy club. Though her best friend Yuki supports her passion, she is afraid that Kaori’s love for stars has a detrimental effect on their relationship.
This newly released “anime short” dramatically expands upon the original sixty-second advertisement that aired on February 19. With new sequences and better character development, the latest video gives us a better understanding of Loundraw’s plans for his upcoming film.
The anime film, set in the same universe as the commercial, follows three high schoolers to uncover the mystery of an urban legend known as the summer ghost.
The anime film and the commercial are also part of the project Common, an initiative to express the “true loundraw.” The illustrator is known for films like “I want to eat your pancreas” and “Josee, The Tiger, and the Fish.”
Well, if the short and his track record of heart-wrenching films are anything to go by, Summer Ghost is sure to be yet another emotional rollercoaster. So don’t miss out.
