Arrow, starring Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen, has been one of The CW’s biggest flagship franchises since its 2012 premiere. The drama set the foundation for the widely popular
Arrowverse, connected by several interlinked series.
Roy Harper, better known as Speedy, Red Arrow, and Arsenal in the comics, was one of the key characters from the Green Arrow mythology introduced early in Arrow.
Roy, played by Teen Wolf star Colton Haynes, was a key member of Team Arrow until the actor left the show at the end of Arrow season 3 to deal with some physical and mental issues.
Having initially left the series in Season 3, he returned in Season 7 as a series regular before departing once again, appearing in just a handful of episodes in season 8.
Now, after almost 2 years since Arrow’s conclusion, Haynes has opened up that his second departure from the series was because he couldn’t stand one cast member.
While the actor left the series for the first time due to physical and mental issues, his second departure was because of a certain cast member.
According to Haynes’ new memoir Miss Memory Lane (via Screen Rant), it wasn’t his contract that caused him to leave Arrow the second time, but because he couldn’t “stand working” with one of his cast members. The actor did not elaborate on who this particular cast member was.
Haynes stated the following about his second departure:
I had walked away from my full-time job on Arrow at the beginning of the year, supposedly because my contract had ended. but it was really because I was too depressed and I couldn’t stand working with one of my cast mates.
Colton Haynes
Haynes left the show as a series regular after Season 7, but returned for a few episodes in the final season, including the finale where he and Thea Queen (Willa Holland) get engaged. Since then, he hasn’t appeared in another Arrowverse series.
In the absence of more information from Haynes, it will never be clear which Arrow cast member made his work experience challenging.
Despite being unfortunate, it is not uncommon for actors in major TV productions to have conflicts with each other. The actor’s decision to leave the Arrowverse show was the right call if it harmed his mental health, something he has been vocal about in the past.
As for his future projects, Haynes is set to return as Colton Whittemore once again in Paramount+’s Teen Wolf: The movie, bringing back many fan-favorite characters together.
For now, there is no clarity on which cast member Haynes was referring to.
Fans can stream the final season of Arrow on Netflix.
