Since the much-anticipated release of Grand Theft Auto 6 is the main focus of Rockstar Games, the company has reportedly scrapped its remaster plans for GTA 4 and Red Dead Redemption 1.
As per a report from Kotaku, the remasters suffered devastating blows due to a handful of reasons. Primarily, Rockstar is emphasizing the development of the next entry in the GTA series, a release date for which still remains unannounced.
But the other reason behind the weeding out of this rumored project is the poor reception of the botched Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition.
Enthusiasts who were excited to venture out in the revamped crime-filled streets of GTA as Tommy, CJ, and Claude were held back by a slew of bugs and underwhelming graphics, which were detrimental to not only Rockstar’s reputation as a publisher but also the legacy of classic GTA games.
However, this does not mean that the door for the remasters will forever remain closed. A Kotaku report has revealed that after the release of GTA VI, Rockstar is likely to revisit its plan of enhancing two of its most successful titles – GTA 4 and RDR 1.
When the rumors confirming the existence of the then-speculated GTA Trilogy remasters were making rounds, it was also claimed that the plan to improve RDR1 was on the table for the publisher.
But with the demand for GTA VI growing alarmingly, Rockstar had to focus all its resources on developing and refining the next big thing by keeping the remaster projects in the dark.
Given that Rockstar is known for spending a lot of time on game development, it’s likely that GTA VI is still at least two years away from launch. This, consequently, means that saddling your horse as John Marston and exploring Liberty City in the shoes of Niko Bellic will take quite some time before it’s ever a possibility.
