Arcane, a Netflix animated series, premiered in November 2021 and quickly became a smash hit with its gripping story.
It even won an Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program in September 2022, so you know it’s one to add to your watch list if you haven’t already.
But, given that you’re reading about season two, we’re going to bet that you’ve already consumed the first set of episodes and are eager to learn when we’ll see more.
Here’s all you need to know about what the show’s future holds.
Arcane Season 2 potential release date: When will it air?
We are still determining when Arcane will return for season two, but it’s coming.
The show’s production began in November 2021, as Netflix announced, but now it’s just a waiting game.
The first series took six years to create, according to Riot Games CEO Nicolo Laurent, but in a ttweet, he vowed that the wait for a second season wouldn’t be as long:
But speeding up a six-year process would be difficult, so please don’t anticipate it until at least 2023. (at the earliest).
Christian Linke and Alex Yee, co-creators, commented, “We’re beyond happy about the positive response to Arcane’s first season and are working hard with the creative wizards at Riot and Fortiche to deliver our second installment.”
Season one featured an unusual format in which three episodes debuted simultaneously; season two will follow suit whenever it arrives.
Yee says (via Superpixel), “This was an idea that we had early on regarding a release schedule for it. We designed the story with the idea of having triplets. You feel like you get a good chunk every three, and the end of every third episode usually has some big moments.
With shows that are more in the half-hour range, having just one every week doesn’t give you a lot to sink your teeth into. And then, if we release it all at once, it’s surprising how fast you can watch it.
“Also, Riot wanted to make this an event – they wanted to have that capability for fans to get together and to speculate and to have quests and missions in the games that you could unlock while you’re watching. This schedule gave us the best of both worlds.
You don’t have to wait too long to get through everything, and every time we have a drop in episodes. Hopefully, there’s enough content for you to feel like ‘we got to sit down together and have a whole viewing experience.”
Meanwhile, the beautiful team has occupied us with the YouTube video Bridging The Rift, which follows the creation of Arcane. Weekly new episodes are released.
Arcane season 2 cast: Who will be in it?
The following season one star is returning to voice the second season:
- Hailee Steinfeld as Vi
- Ella Purnell as Jinx (formerly known as Powder)
- Katie Leung as Caitlyn
Steinfeld has joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Kate Bishop and a young want-to-be superhero Hawkeye mentor. She was highly praised for her performance in Dickinson, in which she played the youthful Emily Dickinson.
“In many cases, the people we chose to work with were not quite as big at the time as they ended up becoming,” Yee told One Esports.
“It was cool to see that a lot of the talent that we chose to work with over the years popped off in many different formats and projects,” Linke said.
Ella Purnell, who recently wowed audiences in Yellowjackets, now voices Jinx. “We all know who she is in the game,” said Yee. “But we wanted to bring this extra dimension to her to see this subtle and true human behind Jinx’s big, bright, flashy exterior, and I think Ella was excellent in that.”
Meanwhile, a teaser from Arcane’s team has fans wondering if there could be an intriguing new addition to the series.
The teaser includes no new scenes, only some dialogue. Still, the critical part comes at the end: Arcane fans believe they can hear the mechanical heartbeat of League of Legends champion Warwick, a part werewolf, a part machine who has no memory of his life before being experimented on in scientist Singed’s laboratory.
There is no word on who would voice Warwick if he is added to season two, but keep an eye on this area for updates.
Arcane season 2 plot: What will happen?
Arcane, set in Riot Games’ League of Legends universe, explores the genesis tales of characters from Piltover, a utopian city, and Zaun, a repressed undercity, featuring sisters Vi (Hailee Steinfeld) and Jinx (Ella Purnell).
Season one’s last episode was undoubtedly explosive, with Jayce, Mel, Viktor, Cassandra, Hoskel, Bolbok, Shoola, and Salo’s destiny hanging in the balance.
However, this implies that many narrative lines will be developed in season two.
Because Silco was killed, Zaun no longer has a leader, and it’s unclear who could take control. Because potential candidate Jinx is out of control, Vi may have to step up, especially given that she is the adoptive daughter of Zaun’s late leader, Vander.
Meanwhile, Jinx produced a major commotion at the end of the episode by pointing a rocket launcher at the Council building, just as those inside were voting to enact a bill granting Zaun independence.
Her rage might spark a war between Piltover and Zaun, and it remains to be seen whether any survivors of the blast can affirm that the independence vote was successful.
Jinx is unlikely to be reunited with her sister Vi very soon, either. Vi initially tried to mend her connection with Jinx, but witnessing your sibling shoot a rocket into a crowded skyscraper was difficult.
Reed Shannon has some narrative ideas for the following seasons. “I would love to see Ekko and Mel interact.
That would be crazy… There’s one thing about Arcane that I was very interested in, because of the poverty difference, because of the difference between the top city and the Undercity, race isn’t a thing that is discussed between the characters.
“So I would love to see how people that look the same interact. Is there that sort of thing, or is everybody just there? I would also love to see them interact just because Ekko is so smart, and she might be like, ‘Oh, you could be used… We could take you back to Noxus, and you could build anything big.’ That would be pretty interesting.”
It certainly would. And there’s a chance Shannon could see his wishes come true on the big screen.
“We want to tell more stories,” Linke told Superpixel. “There’s going to be more things we want to explore whether or not it’s going to be a TV show or movie. Like Arcane, we didn’t say from the beginning that we wanted it to be a TV show or something. We just went with, ‘Okay, we love these characters. Here’s a story that we’re going to tell.’
“And then over time, we found out we need the time of a TV show to go as deep as we want to – Vi and Jinx, Victor and Jayce, etc. But there could be a story at some point where it’s going to be a movie format. I think we plan to tell many more stories when I explore this. I think the answer is yes; there will be.”
Caitlyn and Vi’s relationship will be explored, the team confirmed at the BAFTAs.
“How we wanted to roll that story out has always been determined. What you will see in season 2 will be part of the big picture we’ve had all along,” Alex Yee said (via The Digital Fix).

About Arcane
Christian Linke and Alex Yee produced the animated action-adventure streaming television series Arcane. It was created by the French animation company Fortiche and published by Netflix under the supervision of Riot Games.
Based on League of Legends’ universe, Arcane explores the delicate balance between the rich, utopian metropolis of Piltover Crest icon.png Piltover and the seedy, downtrodden underworld of Zaun. Many of Runeterra’s brightest minds live in these cities, which are known as the “cities of development.”
However, the development of hextech, which allows anybody to control magical energy, threatens that equilibrium. The plot covers the beginnings of two legendary League champions, as well as the force that would rip them apart.
