The relatable and lovable Sheila Rubin is returning to her fans. Apple TV+ confirmed the renewal of the comedy-drama series Physical for Season 3, two months after the finale of Season 2.
Physical is an Apple TV+ original set in San Diego in the 1980s and surrounds the empowering journey of Sheila Rubin. A woman of immense strength, Sheila quietly suffers emotional turmoil as her husband fights in politics but finds her release in the world of aerobics.
The dark comedy stars Rose Byrne as Sheila Rubin, Rory Scovel as Danny Rubin, Paul Sparks as John Breem, Della Saba as Bunny Kazam, Lou Taylor Pucci as Tyler, Deirdre Friel as Greta Houser, Geoffrey Arend as Jerry Goldman, and Tawny Newsome as Wanda.
The show generally gained positive reviews from audiences and critics, praising Bryne’s magnetic performance and the beautiful story of Sheila Rubin. Apple TV+ first premiered the show on August 6, 2021, with weekly episodes, and we can expect Season 3 in the second half of 2023.
Following the news of the confirmed renewal, the show’s creator and showrunner Annie Weisman shared a comment about her excitement about Season 3 and how she plans to explore Sheila Rubin even more.
I am thrilled for the opportunity to continue telling Sheila’s story in creative collaboration with Rose Byrne and the rest of our incredible cast, writers, and crew. Rose’s breathtaking, hilarious and brave performance is the north star on our show’s journey of personal empowerment and transformation in ’80s Southern California in all its synth-pop, sun-baked, spandex-clad glory. The feedback we’ve received from audiences who continue to discover and feel seen by Physical is the most deeply gratifying experience of my career. I’m so grateful to our team at Apple and Tomorrow Studios for making this dream a reality.
The network has not added a release date or window for Season 3, but according to previous patterns, we can expect the show to return in the second half of 2023.
