The long-running light novel and manga franchise Apothecary Diaries follows the story set in a fictional historical land. There are few historical-based anime, and it isn’t easy to nail this genre.
However, Apothecary Diaries comes with a lot of expectations owing to the incredible success of its parent novel. The anime is set to air in October, and just a few days before its release, the production company has revealed much information. Here’s all the information that was released.
The official website for The Apothecary Diaries (Kusuriya no Hitorigoto) revealed the show’s main promotional video. The website has also announced additional cast members. The anime will premiere on October 21 with the first three episodes and air for two cours. Crunchyroll will stream the anime as it airs starting on October 21.
The main trailer features our protagonist, Maomao, as she tries to get by her daily life at the rear palace after being appointed a lady-in-waiting to the Emperor’s favorite consort.
The trailers also give clues about a curse that seems to take the lives of infants. It feels like there is an elaborate plan which involves the use of poisons. Fortunately, Maomao is well-versed with toxins, so it will be thrilling to see her uncover the truth.
The video reveals and previews Ryokuōshoku Shakai’s opening theme song, “Hana ni Natte” (Become a Flower). Aina The End is performing the ending theme song “Aikotoba” (Password).
Norihiro Naganuma (The Ancient Magus’ Bride season 1) directs the anime at TOHO animation. Aoi Yūki will voice the main character, Maomao, and Takeo Ōtsuka will play Jinshi.

About The Apothecary Diaries
‘The Apothecary Diaries’ is a light novel series written by Natsu Hyuga and illustrated by Touko Shino. The series will be receiving an anime adaptation in 2023.
The story follows a young girl, Maomao, who is the daughter of an apothecary and possesses an extensive knowledge of medicine and herbs. When she is kidnapped and sold to the rear palace, she is forced to navigate life in this new, foreign environment.
