3. Episode 1 Recap
Aono Hajime, a gifted violinist and teenager, reflects on the days he used to perform and mesmerize a crowd. Not remarkably talented at sport, he heads to the infirmary, where he hears a girl humming. Back at home, his mother asks him to enter a locked door to kill a cockroach, a room which had not been opened since “then.”
The room was where Hajime spent most of his life practicing the violin with his father, but it had been a year since he entered it, causing him to be struck by old memories and struggle to sleep. At career counseling, his PE teacher wonders why Hajime is left with no ambition.
Hajime constantly hears the sound of the violin, and the teacher reveals that a girl, Akine, has been playing it in the infirmary despite his objections. It is later revealed that his father, a famous violinist, heavily pressured Hajime to play the violin, even if it kills him. His father had an affair with another woman and left Hajime and his wife. Hajime decided to stop playing after these incidents.
Hajime hits his head during PE and is asked to rest in the infirmary. A girl arrives at the infirmary and plays the violin poorly, causing Hajime to wake up and criticize her. Their teacher arrives and reveals she is playing his violin, as he used to be a part of the Orchestra club in his school days. He then announces that Hajime will be Akine’s new violin teacher.
