Marvel Studios released the first official trailer for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania a few days ago, providing an in-depth look at the Quantum Realm, teasing the original Wasp’s secrets, and Stature in action.
The trailer also introduces Ant-Man 3’s antagonist, who will rise as the MCU’s next ultimate villain after the Purple Titan – Kang the Conqueror. One of the most comic-accurate villains in the MCU, Kang has a mission for Scott Lang – help him find a lost object, and the conqueror will return them home.
You can watch the trailer below:
The two-minute trailer establishes Scott Lang’s life post-Endgame, where he has gained some recognition – albeit sometimes he is confused for the web-slinging superhero.
Cassie Lang, a budding engineering genius, created a Quantum Beacon that could send and receive signals in the Quantum Realm. But as Janet warns them of its danger and is asking her to shut it down, the device sucks the Pyms and Langs into the Quantum Realm.
Described as a “secret universe beneath ours” by Janet Van Dyne, who spent three decades down there, the details of which not even her family knows, the Quantum Realm is a wonky place. Like an Upside-Down set-in space with aliens much odder looking than the Demogorgons of Stranger Things.
The trailer offers a first in-action look at Stature, Cassie’s superhero persona, and teases the film’s exploration of the mysterious time Janet spent in the Quantum Realm. She seems to know the terrors of Kang the Conqueror, whom we see moments later.
MCU fans get their first look at Kang the Conqueror, presiding over Chronopolis and his army, one of the most dangerous variants of He Who Remains (Loki), who is hell-bent on conquering the Multiverse.
Kang promises Scott and his family safe passage and even gives them some time to prepare their universe for Kang’s inevitable attack, but only on the condition that Ant-Man finds and returns an object he’d lost long ago.
And, though this is just a theory, we think it’s the Forever Crystal, better known as a weapon capable of destroying the Multiverse and the key to Kang’s exit from the Quantum Realm and his access to the Multiverse.
The official trailer is slightly different than the one shown at SDCC 2022. The Comic-Con trailer established a connection between Bill Murray’s undisclosed character and Janet Van Dyne, it also revealed the first look of Modok, both of these scenes are absent in the official trailer.
But the trailer looks promising enough to spell another box office hit. The film, set to release on February 17, 2023, will set up Avengers: Kang Dynasty and mark the beginning of the MCU’s Phase Five.
