It’s a known fact that no MCU movie is complete without its iconic post-credit scenes, and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is no exception. As a matter of fact, it has some of the best post-credit scenes in the entire MCU franchise, which sets up major characters and plotlines.
Ant-Man 3 features two post-credit scenes. The first is a mid-credit scene that sets up the highly anticipated upcoming project of the MCU, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. The second one, which is the end-credit scene, ties in the movie with the upcoming Loki season 2.
Both of these scenes carry immense significance as they lay the foundation for future MCU projects and seamlessly connect Quantumania with other upcoming MCU ventures. Furthermore, they introduce us to a few new characters that are bound to play a pivotal role in the future of the MCU.
So, let’s delve into the two post-credit scenes of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and decipher what they have in store for the future of the MCU while we meet the new characters of the universe.
The First Post-Credit Scene Features the Council of Kangs
In the initial post-credit scene of Quantumania, we are introduced to the Council of Kangs, which will have a significant impact on the MCU in the future. The first glimpse reveals a group of three Kangs, followed by multiple Variants of Kang joining forces to take down the Avengers.
In this scene, three Kangs are in a deep conversation about the Exiled One, who they claim was killed by one of the Avengers. They express their concern about the Avengers potentially disrupting the Multiverse, which could have disastrous consequences.
To address this issue, Immortus, one of the variants of Kang, summons every Kang Variant from different timelines to join him. The scene ends with a stunning moment as countless Kangs gather in a colossal arena, possibly plotting their next steps against the Earth-616 Avengers. With just one Kang possessing an immense amount of power, it’s difficult to imagine what an army of them could achieve.
Victor Timely & Connection to Loki S2
The second post-credits scene in the film establishes a connection with the upcoming Loki season 2. The scene takes us to the 19th century where Victor Timely is giving a scientific lecture on time manipulation. As the camera shows the audience, Loki and Mobius can be seen discussing how Victor is the villain they have been searching for. Although Mobius is not entirely convinced, Loki is adamant that Victor poses a threat to the Multiverse.
In Marvel Comics, Victor Timely is actually a version of Kang who travels through time and presents himself as a skilled scientist and engineer. He establishes the city of Timely, Wisconsin as a center for unconventional science and advancement.
This particular Kang Variant is immortal and fakes his own death to remain hidden, passing his identity down to his son. Victor operates Chronopolis, a city that enables Kang the Conqueror to enter any time period and continue his conquests, under the guise of Timely.
In other words, it is possible that the man presenting the scientific lecture is the same Kang that Scott Lang believed he had defeated in the Quantum Realm. However, we will have to wait for the second season of Loki on Disney+ to find out why Loki fears Victor and know his true identity.
Pharaoh Rama-Tut
The first Kang Variant we see in Quantumania is none other than Pharaoh Rama-Tut, the tyrant Kang from the Marvel Comics. Bored with life in the future, Kang ventured back in time to Ancient Egypt, where he employed his advanced technology to rule as pharaoh and dominate with an unyielding grip.
Despite his immense abilities, he couldn’t escape the time-traveling Avengers and other Marvel heroes who ultimately deposed him. In the film, Rama-Tut joins forces with two other variants of Kang to bring down the Avengers of Earth 616.
Immortus
The other important variant of Kang we witness is Immortus, an alternate version of Kang, who chooses a different path than his evil Conqueror Variants. After several failed attempts at conquering the universe, Kang decides to go back in time to Ancient Egypt, where his younger self had already left.
This time, Kang becomes a fair and just ruler and finds a sense of purpose that he had been missing. He uses his intelligence to slow down his aging and his powers to defeat his Conqueror Variant. Just before Death can claim him, Kang escapes to Limbo, a timeless dimension, where he transforms into Immortus.
As an eternal being, Immortus becomes a guardian of timelines and has the power to alter history. Immortus is more powerful than He Who Remains in the MCU, but they share similar traits as both seek to protect time and prevent their evil Variants from causing chaos.
Scarlet Centurion or Iron Lad
The end-credits scenes of the MCU provide a sneak peek at a potential new Kang Variant, which could be either Scarlet Centurion or Iron Lad. It’s uncertain which one it is, as the design of Scarlet Centurion may differ from its comic book counterpart.
Scarlet Centurion is a version of Kang who wears battle armor and uses technology to fight his foes, especially in Ancient Egypt. Marvel Studios has a chance to modernize Scarlet Centurion’s armor to fit the live-action format better.
Iron Lad, on the other hand, is a heroic Kang Variant who, after glimpsing at his Conqueror future, teams up with the Avengers to combat other evil Kangs. In the comics, Iron Lad’s suit is similar to Iron Man’s.
However, given that Robert Downey Jr.’s character arc as Tony Stark is complete, it’s plausible that Marvel Studios may choose to entirely redesign Iron Lad’s armor.
Although it’s unusual for a Kang Variant to be a hero, we don’t know the goals or intentions of the Kang council, so it’s possible that the heroic Kang Variant has misplaced trust in the other Variants.
