Phase 5 of the MCU is locked and loaded to shoot off with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, all set to release in theaters globally this February. Marvel Studios Head Kevin Feige took it upon himself to explain why he made Ant-Man 3 the starting point of the new MCU Phase 5.
In a new featurette of the upcoming film, Feige explained how Scott and the Pym particles were the key to the Avengers’ win in Endgame. Feige wanted Scott, a “character who is arguably the most underestimated,” and allowed him to do the “unexpected” again.
Feige explained because of the above reason, Marvel decided to kick off Kang’s entrance with Ant-Man 3 and thus start Phase Five by introducing the fandom to the next Thanos. Read his full quote below:
We always love doing the unexpected with Scott Lang. He is, arguably, the character that is the most underestimated. Ant-Man became the key to saving the universe in Avengers: Endgame. So, carrying that tradition, we thought, ‘Hey, let’s use this film to kick off Phase 5.’
Before Phase 5, all the series and films that came after the Infinity Saga so far didn’t connect naturally to the Multiverse Saga, and even if they did, it hasn’t been evident till now. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania can change that by connecting the floating dots and revealing the bigger picture with Kang’s introduction.
Feige’s decision to kick off Phase Five with Scott and his family is crucial since they are the only ones who have a connection to the Quantum Realm, thanks to Janet. The Quantum Realm is Kang’s prison and home since he was stranded there, but after the events of Ant-Man 3, we’re sure the conqueror won’t be shackled any longer.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will release in theaters worldwide on February 17, 2023.
