Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’s critic reviews are in, and let’s just say things don’t look good for the threequel. The Rotten Tomatoes score for Ant-Man 3 stands at 51 percent at the time of writing, bringing the MCU’s total to two “rotten” scores among more than thirty films.
That’s right, Ant-Man’s third instalment has the second lowest rating on Rotten Tomatoes in the MCU, coming just above Eternals with 47 percent. The threequel knocked over Thor: Love and Thunder, which had the lowest rating besides Eternals at 64 percent, and is now the second film to get a green splat across its name.
Rotten Tomatoes is the biggest review aggregator, and many projects in the MCU’s Phase Four have not met the critics’ standards. But Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania marked the beginning of Phase 5, and the film’s low score has the fandom worried about the upcoming chapter of the MCU.
The critics praised the actors’ performances, with shining compliments awarded to Michelle Pfeiffer, Paul Rudd, and even MCU newcomer Kathryn Newton. Most critics agreed Jonathan Majors’ Kang was the movie’s highlight solely because the actor delivered such a strong performance on a mediocre script.
Critics have slammed the film for not keeping the charm and humor the previous Ant-Man films maintained, and maybe that’s why the two previous instalments stand at the higher 80 percentile while the third manages to scrape a 50 percent slate.
Other mutual complaints include the actors’ talents far outmatching the script, the not-upto-the-mark CGI, and chaotic action sequences. Does this mean that Phase 5 is off to a bad start already?
While the Rotten Tomatoes score usually indicates any film’s actual entertainment value, the audiences have found it to be inaccurate several times, especially in the case of the MCU. Maybe we should book our tickets and watch the film, releasing on February 17, 2023, to determine for ourselves whether the movie is truly “rotten” or not.
