Chapter 129 of Attack on Titan, titled, “Retrospective” exhibits a sudden twist in the plot as plans go haywire for both the Yeagerists and the Azumabito.
The original intention of using the flying ship will not work as it takes half a day to prepare the ship. It is impossible to afford that much time while still fighting for life.
Kiyomi Azumabito suggests that the only way is to tow the ship to Odiha, a harbor in Marley. Odiha is closer to the rumbling, yet they might just have enough time to assemble the boat.
Meanwhile, the rumbling is getting closer and closer to destroying Liberio, a Marleyan city designated for Eldians to live in.
Grisha Yeager hails from Liberio, and so does Annie Leonhart. While Annie was sent to a mission to Paradis Island, her father still remains there. She is desperate to save her birthplace and her father, along with it.
Annie learns of the plan about servicing the flying boat in Odiha and starts to worry. She is tossed in agitation as she does not know whether Liberio can even be saved within time.
Reiner Braun is from the city of Liberio as well. He used to live in the Eldian internment zone and was later selected to become a warrior of Marley. His loyalty is tested as Liberio is on the verge of falling.
Annie’s concerns are evident through the words, “Will I be able to get to Liberio…Where my father is…? “It is incredibly tough for her to have faith in the Azumabito being able to save Liberio.
Yet, she fights the Yeagerists with her life on the line and protects the Azumabito using her body as a shield. She is wounded badly to the point where her limbs are blown off, and she can’t see, but she doesn’t lose hope.
At this point, the pressure of saving not only one’s father but also a continent can drive a person immobile, yet Annie fights on with her steel nerves.
Both Annie and Reiner are in a grave dilemma as they offered their help so that they could save Liberio along with their family and acquaintances.
