Everyone knows the iconic comedy-drama starring Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, and Emily Blunt, the 2006 film The Devil Wears Prada!
Over the years, fans have wondered if the film will ever get a sequel. Well, now we know for sure that it most likely never will. And it’s Anne Hathaway who breaks this news to us.
Can you hear our hearts breaking just a little? Is it the same for you? Well, tough. Anne Hathaway has spoken up about the possibility of the 2006 film’s sequel, and she is definitely against it.
Anne Hathaway’s recent appearance at the 2022 New York Fashion Week brought into conversation the possibility for a sequel, when the actress arrived in an almost identical outfit Andy wore at the end of The Devil Wears Prada. You’ll find the NYFW look below and know exactly what we’re talking about:
Entertainment Tonight reported that when they asked Anne Hathaway if she’d like to do a sequel to The Devil Wears Prada, she denied that possibility. Don’t believe us? Well, here’s her quote, word for word, on the matter:
There’s not going to be a sequel. It’s not going to happen. It’s just like, we can’t do it. It’s not going to happen. It exists. There are other films. There will be other films. We can just watch that one [the original] again.
Well, there you go! Anne Hathaway has not specified any reason, but we can throw some light on why The Devil Wears Prada cannot have a sequel.
As we know, the film became a classic after its successful run at the box office in 2006. The film gained generally positive reviews, and the design department and performances were highly commended.
Since the film’s release and success, all the movie’s main leads and favorite actors have been thrust into stardom. Thus, on strictly scheduling matters alone, the actors are simply too busy to take on this risky project.
But if anything, a sequel would be as successful as the original, if not more. So, what’s the risk? Well, there is a risk of “over cooking” the already perfect recipe. The original movie had a satisfactory ending for all the characters involved and trying to further that story might just spoil it.
So, there you have it; now you know why there isn’t and never will be a possible sequel to The Devil Wears Prada.
