Tony Gilroy, creator, and showrunner of Andor, confirmed the date for the start of shooting of Andor season 2. The famous spin-off series of Star Wars centers around the life of Cassian Andor (Diego Luna), the thief turned spy.
The ensemble cast also features Genevieve O’Reilly as Mon Mothma. Other cast members include Denise Gough, Stellan Skarsgard, and Andy Serkis.
The finale of Andor season 1 will premiere on Disney Plus on November 23.
Creator Tony Gilroy confirmed to Collider that Andor season 2 has been confirmed for a long time. The shooting will start on November 21, in London, just before Thanksgiving. The directors of season 1 will be replaced by Ariel Kleiman, Janus Metz, and Alonso Ruizpalacios.
Gilroy also revealed that he would be present for the first shot of Andor season 2 before flying back home for the Christmas holidays.
It was previously revealed that the events of Andor season 2 would directly lead to the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. In Rogue One, the rebel alliance will finally mark its first significant victory against the oppressive imperial regime.
From what we have seen in Andor season 1, the rebels have a long way to go before becoming united and taking on the Imperial regime.
In season 2, Mon Mothma is expected to take significant strides towards strengthening the rebel alliance, and the associations will spread far and wide in the galaxy.
Gilroy confirmed that there would be a time jump between the events of season 1 and the start of season 2. This will bring the audience even closer to the events of Rogue One.
Gilroy has also revealed that the rebel base of Yavin 4, seen in both Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Episode IV: A New Hope, will feature throughout the second season of Andor.
Season 2 will mark the final transformation of Cassian Andor from a self-centered thief to a rebel operative against the Imperial regime, working for a greater cause.
Andor has been one of the best spin-off series of the Lucasfilm universe. Serving as the prequel to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Andor deals with the underrated characters of the Star Wars universe. The fans have very well received its grounded and gritty take on imperialism.
It is unique to the Star Wars franchise because it explores the intricacies of an oppressive regime. Gilroy has let go of lightsabers and Jedi and has focused on something very different in a galaxy far, far away.
Despite a slow start, recent statistics have shown that the demand for Andor has increased exponentially over time.
Going into the final episodes of season 1, it is as popular as the Mandalorian.
