A post-credit scene isn’t something you would expect in a Star Wars movie. However, since Mandalorian season 2, they’ve also added post-credit reveals to their arsenal.
The finale of Andor season 1 has a post-credits scene, too, revealing many exciting things!
In Andor season 1, Andor gets a six-year sentence on Narkina-5 and is deported to the high-security prison. The post-credit scene answers a burning question in fans’ minds: what were the prisoners building inside the prison?
For an entire show arc, we saw Cassian, Melshi, and the other prisoners building parts of an unknown machine inside the prison. Old inmates went, and new ones joined in, but the work never stopped.
The fans could think of only one logical explanation. Were the prisoners being forced to build the ultimate weapon of the Imperial Empire, the Death Star?
The post-credit scene confirms our suspicions. It shows many spider droids patching many hexagonal golden plates to make a surface.
As the scene zooms out, we see the bigger picture: the golden plates stack up to form the main dish of the humongous Death Star. It shows the Death Star in its entirety, almost finished and waiting for Orson Krennic to add the final touch.
The scene is shot in such a way that it helps us understand the sheer size of the Death Star. The camera initially focuses on the life-sized spider droids. Then it starts zooming out till the Death Star becomes visible, and the droids are reduced to mere pixels on the screen.
This scene somewhat contradicts the ending of Revenge of the Sith, though. There we see Darth Vader and Darth Sidious overlooking the construction of the Death Star skeleton with the dish already there.
So, was it the skeleton or the dish that was made first? Guess we have run into a classic who-came-first-chicken-or-egg situation!
We never get an official explanation for the inconsistency, but we can surely let that slide!
Let’s talk about the biggest tragedy of our titular character.
In Narkina-5, Andor helps build the dish of the Death Star while in prison. In Rogue One, Andor sacrifices everything to steal the plans of the Death Star and destroy it. The Death Star ultimately becomes the reason for his demise.
So, in Andor season 1, we see him building his own nemesis. Talk about irony!
It also exemplifies Luthen Rael’s speech in the episode “One Way Out”, where he says that Cassian has nothing left to lose and is willing to sacrifice his own life to stop the Imperial Empire.
Yes, the twist is a cruel one. But we still can’t stop thinking about it. The redemption of Cassian from a self-centered thief to a rebel willing to sacrifice everything for the greater good is something that gives us hope. Nothing is more ‘Star Wars’ than this!
