Something You Should Know if You Don’t End up Liking Windows 11

Since the latter half of June, Microsoft has been in the global news cycle for one reason: Windows 11. The American tech giant revealed a refreshed iteration of its marquee software and announced that Windows 10 users would get Windows 11 for free.

While the software had a fairly positive reception, naturally, a few did not get what all the fuss was about. If you are one of those people – or even if you are someone who’s excited about the new OS, it’s all the same – there is something you must know.

If you don’t end up enjoying Windows 11 when it arrives later this year, you will have only 10 days to make a hassle-free move back to Windows 10.

This info comes from the FAQ section on Microsoft’s Windows 11 page. In response to the question, “Can I go back to Windows 10 after I upgrade if I don’t like Windows 11?” Microsoft states the following:

Yes. After you have installed the Windows 11 upgrade, there is a 10-day period where you can move back to Windows 10 while keeping files and data that you brought along with you. After the 10 days, you will need to back up your data and do a ‘clean install’ to move back to Windows 10.

So essentially, it’s not like you cannot revert to Windows 10 after the 10 days have elapsed. It’s just that a clean reset will be a necessary part of the process, which means you will have to go through the headache of backing up all your data.

The clean installation process is nothing too complex. In fact, it is recommended that you do a clean install for a new OS. But the ordeal of backing up your data makes this process a very long one. So, the revert process that just involves pushing a couple of buttons is the one you should be planning for.

Giving users the option to make a clean switch back to familiar territory is a good move by Microsoft. What’s more, Windows 10 will receive official support till October 2025. So, those who love Windows 10 need not be in any rush to upgrade to Windows 11.
