If you’re looking for a gripping survival tale layered with dark societal representation, Paramount Movies’ American Refugee might just be it.
On November 19, the trailer for the survival thriller American Refugee was released, receiving a commendable response from viewers.
A first look at American Refugee’s trailer shows the many sides of humanity at the border of collapse—emotional, psychological, and societal.
Greg and Helen Taylor will go to any lengths to save their family, and it shows. They take refuge in the bunker of the neighboring family’s patriarch Winter.
As the society around the two families collapses, surprisingly (or not so), the Taylors are not ready, but Winter and his family definitely are.
Guns locking, a bunker with limited supplies, lights off at sharp 9, and more—it almost looks like Winter knew about the future.
“You being here is no accident,” says a voiceover as Winter unlocks the door with his master key to Helen showering. The two families with contrasting opinions have to stay together and prove each other’s liability to the other one.
More so, the Taylors have to prove themselves as an asset. It would take someone living under a rock for decades not to see the creators playing on the American Black and White stereotype, too.
Watch the gripping American Refugee trailer below:
Derek Luke and Erika Alexander essay the roles of the heads of the Taylor family, Greg and Helen. Meanwhile, Sam Trammell looks more intense as the cruel and skilled patriarch of the Winter family.
Produced by Blumhouse Television, the trailer has multiple impactful scenes that depend on silence and gestures.
American Refugee will be released by Epix on December 10, 2021, and will be available to purchase digitally on cable or stream on Epix.
