Despite the massive chip shortage faced by the industry, GPU manufacturers have been blazing ahead, launching new offerings for all those who can get their hands on them. The latest news reveals that AMD is coming out with two new graphics cards based on their new manufacturing process and will be launching pretty much at the start of next year.
This news comes from Videocardz, who cites their source, Discoluzen. The portal reports that the AMD Radeon RX 6500XT will be launching on January 19th. The stripped-down version of this card, the RX 6400, will not be made by board partners, and the manufacturing of that card will be handled solely by OEMs.
This news’s main point of interest is that both the GPUs will use the 6nm process technology. Discoluzen has not revealed to Videocardz which foundry will be making the Navi 24 GPUs, but it should be TSMC N6, similar to the Intel Arc Alchemist.
AMD will be introducing a new (marketing) spec metric for the Navi 24 SKUs: Memory Bandwidth with Infinity Cache. The official specifications list the RX 6500 XT at 232 GB/s and the RX 6400 at 216 GB/s. Without the Infinity Cache, those figures would most likely drop down to 128 GB/s and 112 GB/s, respectively. This would imply that the RX 6500 XT has 16Gbps GDDR6 memory while RX 6400 comes with 14 Gbps modules.

Regarding power consumption, we will be getting 107W and 53W SKUs. The Navi 24XL based version is a single-slot and low-profile GPU that will not need an external power supply. The RX 6500 XT is a dual-slot and will require a 6-pin power connector to function. Both cards will come with two display connectors: DisplayPort and HDMI.
Videocardz states that the latest information points to AMD announcing the cards at the CES 2022 press conference. We are also expecting the announcement for the new Ryzen 5000 series Threadripper PRO CPU line, so there is a lot AMD has to live up to for this year’s conference. But, given the state of the pandemic, the forum might not happen at all.
