AMD Working On 2nm Zen6 Microarchitecture Codenamed “Morpheus”

An AMD engineer has accidentally leaked information regarding future Zen core designs. A snippet from a LinkedIn profile of one of the AMD engineers working on Zen architecture was leaked, but it has now been removed.

The engineer, whose name is Md Zaheer, also ended up accidentally revealing the codenames of the microarchitecture for Zen5 and Zen6 cores. He appears to be a senior silicon designer engineer at AMD that has worked on the power management aspects of the Zen4, Zen5 and Zen6 cores.

The AMD engineer accidentally leaked that AMD is working on Zen6 microarchitecture codenamed “Morpheus” targeting 2nm process nodes. In addition to that, it was also leaked that the Zen5 core is codenamed “Nirvana” and it would be manufactured using 3nm process nodes.

AMD Zen4-6 Architecture Codenames

Work on the power management project for Zen6 core began this year in January, but it seems like it hasn’t ended yet. The Zen4 architecture is codenamed “Persephone” and it has already been launched in the data center and consumer markets.

The codenames of Zen2-6 architectures are listed below:

  • AMD Zen 2 (7nm) – Valhalla
  • AMD Zen 3 (7nm) – Cerberus
  • AMD Zen 4 (5nm) – Persephone
  • AMD Zen 5 (3nm) – Nirvana
  • AMD Zen 6 (2nm) – Morpehus

AMD Zen Roadmap

AMD recently showed the Zen roadmap which didn’t contain any information about Zen6. The Zen5, on the other hand, is slated to release with three variants: Zen5, Zen5X3D and Zen5c, and it’ll release sometime next year. So, it’s still a long way until we receive any information about the Zen6 architecture. It most likely won’t reach retail markets before 2025.
