Despite the fact that the Ryzen 9 7900X3D is just around the corner, the lack of reviews is concerning. However, AMD recently shed some more light on the configuration of these 12-core Ryzen 9 CPUs.
Despite the availability of the 12-core 24-thread X3D CPU to reviewers, AMD confirms that the 7900X3D has six active cores per chiplet. This refutes the fears that there would be uneven configuration, such as eight cores in the 3D V-cache chiplet and four cores in the normal CCD.
These cores pack the latest Zen4 “Raphael” series equipped with 64MB of cache on top of one chiplet. One of the chiplets doesn’t have the extra cache. A special software solution has also been developed by AMD that ensures no hiccups while using two different chiplets in one package.
Andreas Schilling shared insight into how this model works and also made a mockup of the 16-core and the upcoming 8-core model. The 8 Core model is exclusively based on one CCD with 3D V cache, expected to be the best-in-class gaming Ryzen CPU amongst the three.
While no in-depth news is known about the three CPU offerings by Ryzen, they’re up for sale with the 7950X3D at $699 and the 7900X3D at $599. However, the discounted rates for launch are $574 and $448, respectively.
AMD has been skeptical about distributing the 7900X3D sample to the press, so the performance remains a mystery.
Next month is AMD’s next offering – the 8-core Ryzen 7 7800X3D. Based on only one chiplet with a 3D cache, it should offer the best gaming performance amongst all Ryzen 7, as demonstrated by proper simulations.
