We’re getting very close to the launch of AMD’s AM5 platform and the Ryzen 7000-series CPUs, with spec details, launch date, and pricing leaking every day. Wccftech claims that its sources have got a hold on the specifications of four of the upcoming Zen 4 CPUs.
One of those four SKUs is the flagship AMD Ryzen 9 7950X. The processor will retain the 16 core and 32 thread count from the previous two generations. But what does change with this next-gen flagship is the clock speed.
This flagship Ryzen 7000 CPU will feature an impressive base frequency of 4.5 GHz and a boost clock of up to 5.7 GHz. This means that the base clock receives a substantial upgrade as the 5950X predecessor featured 3.4 GHz. The boost clock also sees an upgrade from 4.9 GHz.
However, when we take a peak on the other side of the road, Intel’s 13th gen Raptor Lake flagship dominates the clock speed department. We just recently saw a Core i9-13900K CPU sample touching the 6.0 GHz mark.
Coming to power consumption, the processor will have a TDP rating of 170W and a 230W in boost. The CPU comes with 80 MB of cache, which includes 64 MB from L3 (32 MB per CCD) and 16 MB from L2 (1 MB per core).
Here is where AMD dominates as the i9-13900K carries a total of 36 MB of L3 cache and 32 MB of L2 cache for a combined 68 MB of Smart Cache. On the other hand, Intel gains an advantage with its higher 24 cores(8 more than Ryzen 9 7950X) and 32 threads.
These specifications not only live up to its expectations from the Ryzen 9 5950X predecessor but also put it in the same court as Intel’s next-gen flagship. However, Intel will have it easier in the marketing with its record 6 GHz mark, so AMD might also need some points that they can show off against team blue.
The Ryzen 9 7950X will be partnered by 7900X to complete the Ryzen 9 lineup. The Ryzen 9 7900X will actually have a higher base clock of 4.7 GHz, which is a whole 1 GHz faster than its predecessor. So, the Ryzen 9 partnership is stronger and closer this time.
These specs so far must have had gamers impressed, but surely we are not done yet, as more leaks about the rest of the CPUs should appear on August 29, when AMD is rumored to announce further details about the lineup. AMD is set to launch its Ryzen 7000 series on September 15th.
