AMD Ryzen 7 7840U is another CPU which uses the Ryzen 7040U Phoenix APU designed for 15-28W laptops. It features 8 cores and 16 threads with Zen4 architecture and also includes a Radeon 780M integrated GPU with RDNA3 graphics architecture.
According to the latest reports, the AMD Ryzen 7 7840U scored 14825 points in the Multi-Core performance test. The 8-core, 16-threads CPU also offers a 3.3 GHz base clock, as shown in the system description.
Compared to the Ryzen 7 7840HS, which has a TDP of 54W, the former’s base clock is 500 MHz lower. However, it is unconfirmed whether this will be its final base clock.
The Cinebench R23 results for the Ryzen 7 7840U are pretty decent, even better than the Ryzen 9 6980HX which scored 14711 points, and the Ryzen 7 6800U with 10412 points. Both these SKUs have 8 cores, 16 threads, and are based on Zen3 architecture.
Paired with the Ryzen 7 7840HS 8-core APU, the Radeon 780M scored 36757 points in the Geekbench OpenCL. However, there aren’t many reports for the integrated GPU available yet.
AMD is expected to launch its Ryzen 7040U “Phoenix” Laptop CPUs, including the Ryzen 7 7840U and Ryzen 5 7640U, sometime in the next quarter. These thin, light, and compact notebooks will offer higher and better performance with reduced power consumption.
