AMD Ryzen 7 7700X 35% Faster than Ryzen 5800X in Cinebench R20, Still Outshined by Intel

AMD Ryzen 7000 processors are due to release in a few months, with an official announcement just a few days away. But we still haven’t seen much from these CPUs, not even leaked benchmarks. However, Chinese blogger Extreme Player has got something for us.

Better known for his Raptor Lake leaks, it seems like Extreme Player has tried his hands over at AMD’s side, not leaving their Ryzen 7 7700X without its own share of leaks.

Cinebench R20 test scores of upcoming Ryzen 7 7700X have been leaked, revealing a 23% score increase in single-core and a 35% increase in multi-core compared to previous-gen Ryzen7 5800X with the same core count.

Precisely, the CPU scored 773 in single-core and 7701 in multi-core tests. The single core performance is even 19% faster than the flagship Ryzen 7 5950X. However, when we compare this CPU to Intel’s corresponding competitor, AMD has to take an L.

Intel Raptor Lake Core i7-13700K’s previous leaks put it around the same ballpark as Ryzen 7700X when it comes to the single core with a score of 814. However, in multi-core tests, Intel’s CPU outshines AMD’s by 46%, with a score of 11243.

This is a huge margin, although an expected one, as Intel’s processor offers double the core count due to its Efficient E-cores. Even the Raptor Cove cores have been deemed superior to Zen 4, explaining the higher single-core scores.

So, at this sub-flagship range, Intel clearly wins the race over AMD. However, Cinebench R20 isn’t the best representation of Zen 4’s performance, and it could do well in newer tests that utilize its computational abilities better.

Besides, there is still hope for Zen 4 as its more powerful siblings, the Ryzen 7 7800X, Ryzen 9 7900X, and Ryzen 7 7950X, could help bridge the performance gap better with their higher core counts. Keep in mind that core counts are not the only number that influences performance.

Power ratings typically also play a big part in performance levels, as we want more performance at the same power consumption. While both of AMD’s 7700X and 5800X CPUs have a TDP of 105W, Intel’s CPU, as always, has a higher power consumption of 125W.

At first sight, it seems like Intel has given much better efficiency, as just a 20W increase in power results in much higher performance levels. However, Intel measures power based on typical use, while AMD measures it as the maximum power draw. Hence, the actual gap is much higher than this.

Previously, Core i7-13700K was tested to use as much as 244W power, indicating that the Raptor Lake CPU is quite power-hungry than its AMD competitor and will require beefy cooling. So, we can not yet see which one of AMD or Intel is more efficient until we get power ratings tested on Ryzen CPUs as well.

AMD Ryzen 7000 is are set to be announced on August 29th, where we are hoping to get more details on these CPUs.
