AMD might be preparing for its next-gen Zen Ryzen 7000 processors launch as it’s just around the corner and is confirmed to launch in September. But that hasn’t stopped the company from giving just a little bit of attention to their Ryzen 5000 CPUs based on the Zen 3 core architecture that have been out in the market for almost two years now.
AMD Ryzen 5000 CPUs have several applications on existing platforms, and one such segment is the embedded marketplace. Advantech has listed a total of four previously unseen AMD Ryzen 5000 “Embedded” CPUs. These chips feature slightly different specifications compared to their desktop offerings.
For example, the AMD Ryzen 9 5950E comes with 12 cores and 24 threads instead of the desktop chip’s 16 cores and 32 threads. Other specs such as the max clock speed of 3.4 GHz, 64 MB of L3 cache, and a 105W TDP rating are the same.
The AMD Ryzen 9 5900E features 10 cores and 20 threads compared to the 12 cores & 24 threads featured on the Ryzen 9 5900X. It has a 3.7 GHz max clock, 64 MB of L3 cache, and a 105W TDP.
The Ryzen 7 5800E provides specifications similar to its desktop variation with a core config of 8 CPU cores, 16 threads, 32 MB of L3 cache, and a 100W TDP allowing up to 3.7 GHz max clocks.
Lastly, the Ryzen 5 5600E features 6 cores, 12 threads, 32 MB of L3 cache, 3.6 GHz clocks, and a 65W TDP.
What Does Embedded Processor Mean?
Most of you might not know what exactly is an embedded processor and how it differs from a normal CPU. Well, it is a microprocessor designed especially for handling the needs of an embedded system.
Embedded systems require less power, so these processors are very small and draw less power from the source. An ordinary microprocessor only comes with the processor in the chip. The peripherals are separate from the main chip, resulting in more power consumption.
The four chips will be supported by the AMD X570 chipset and support DeviceOn and Embedded Software APIs. The prices of these embedded chips aren’t yet revealed, but since they offer a cut-down specifications list, they might be on the cheaper side.
