AMD is preparing a low-power Phoenix APU series. The company may have removed the 7040U series from their initial laptop rollout, but such series is surely still coming. Two such APUs have been found, which hints at a new integrated GPU as well.
A product marked as 100-000000966-50_Y or AMD Ryzen 5 7540U will feature a 6 core and 12 thread processor. It would utilize AMD’s Zen4 microarchitecture, which implies that this is a low-power (U-Series) Phoenix APU. It’ll also feature RDNA3 iGPU, which is listed as Radeon 740M.
The Radeon 740M is an even more cut-down version of 780M/760M. An APU like this would be used by two systems: Lenovo LNVNB161216 and ASUS ROG Flow X13, as revealed in two benchmark result aggregators.
What makes it obvious that this is a soon-to-be released product, is the fact that the Bepco benchmark suite correctly reads the product name. The test for ASUS ROG Flow X13 was performed a month later, due to which the AMD OPN code is shown instead.
The Ryzen 7540U is the newest one to join the club with 7840U and 7640U APUs, which were already seen previously. Interestingly, the Radeon 740M graphics is the lowest tier in the RDNA3 iGPU Series, although the exact GPU configuration is still not known.
AMD did not confirm when the 7040U series will be released, but they did state that Phoenix H/HS SKUs will be released this month after a short delay, so it doesn’t seem like we’ll have to wait long to see them in the wild.
