AMD announces RX 7800 XT and RX 7700 XT with 16GB and 12GB of VRAM

Gamescom 2023 has had some big announcements and reveals. The biggest was teased at ASRock’s Gamescom booth, using a cardboard placeholder for cards released on August 26th.

Now, AMD has announced the new RDNA3-based cards – the Radeon RX 7800 XT and Radeon RX 770 XT – two cards that have been designed keeping in mind 1440p gaming, promising 60+ FPS and value-for-money, being priced at USD 499 and USD 449, respectively.

At Gamescom, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Graphics Business unit of AMD Scott Herkelman said that designing two cards that can handle 1440p gaming easily was driven by “gamers choosing 1440p displays more than any other resolution.”

The RX 7800 XT offers 60 RDNA3 Compute Units compared to the RX 7700 XT’s 54 Compute Units. AMD claims that both the cards will offer 20% more performance per dollar compared to competitors like Nvidia.

RX 7700XT and 7800 XT have capabilities like dedicated AI acceleration with twice the performance as AMD RDNA2, improved streaming quality and performance, and ultra-high-definition encoding.

Two trademark features are the AMD Radiance Display Engine for ultra-high resolutions and high refresh rates and the AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution. The FXSR is now supported by over 300 titles, with the upscaling technology providing “crisp, high-resolution image quality while boosting frame rates.”

Along with the cards, AMD brought out more good news for gamers. This includes FSR3, which will launch with Forspoken, developed by Square Enix, and Immortals of Aveum by EA.

AMD HYPR-RX technology will be included with the next update of AMD Adrenalin Software on September 6th. AMD HYPR-RX will simplify the operation of AMD Radeon Super Resolution, AMD Radeon Anti-Lag, and AMD Radeon Super Resolution.

This would have a compounding effect and improve the performance of the cards. The pricing being so accessible has made fans happy.

The RX 7800 XT and RX 7700 XT will be available with leading board partners like ASRock, ASUS, Gigabyte, PowerColor, Sapphire, Vastarmor, XFX, and Yeston, starting September 6th. The RX 7800 XT will also be available on AMD’s website on the same date.
