Earlier, AMD had changed the specs of the Ryzen 7040HS iGPUs on the official website, reducing the clock speed of the APUs by 200MHz. Initially, it only affected the HS series, with no changes to the H series on the official website.
However, as per the latest updated website stats, it is seen that the 7040H series has befallen the same fate, with clock speed reduced to the same speed as the HS variant. This makes the clock speed similar for both the H and HS series.
This essentially means that there will be no 3.0GHz iGPU in these chips. Out of the six known SKUs in the 7040 series, the highest iGPU clock will be 2.8GHz on the 7940HS/H SKUs.
The entire line, named Phoenix, is one of the most exciting products. Featuring the latest Zen4 microarchitecture and RDNA3 graphics, which are more powerful than the mobile Dragon Range variants with up to 12 compute units.
Announced at the CES 2023, AMD named the lineup for the HS series: 7940HS, 7840HS, and 7640 HS, all set to be 35-54W models, with up to 8 CPU cores and either 8 or 12 RDNA3 units.
Shortly after the announcement, the AMD pages updated that RDNA3 iGPUs will have up to 3.0GHz clocks. Despite initially reducing clock speed specifically for the Chinese region for the 7040HS series, it has now been made series-wide and global.
This might be a lower juice than some players and creators might need. However, prospective buyers need not worry as overclockers may find a way to increase frequency back to 3.0GHz, especially when it sucks the maximum TDP level of 54W.
Irking players is another issue: the CPUs were supposed to have a PCIe Gen5 interface, but now, the updated website confirms PCIe Gen4 support.
Officially set to launch later this month, there has yet to be a confirmation from AMD. With the release date approaching, there could be more minor tweaks and adjustments to the specs.
