AMD Radeon RX 7000 GPUs Might Support DisplayPort 2.0

The AMD Radeon RX 7000 graphics cards are set to launch by 2022.

As of yet, the processors are undergoing software and hardware development, and there are several tweaks happening here and there. Their open-source driver development threads reveal a lot of changes beforehand.

Twitter user @Kepler shared the possibility of the RX 7000 series chips being integrated with the latest DisplayPort standard.

It is rumored that the RDNA3 architecture-based processors can receive support for the DisplayPort 2.0 interface and VESA UHBR20 mode.

We can expect an increased signal bandwidth of up to 80 Gb/s.

Models which support the DisplayPort 2.0 UHBR20 mode have a network throughput of ~80 Gb/s, compared to the DisplayPort 1.4a and HDMI 2.1.

The Radeon RX 7000 accelerators will be able to upscale images up to a resolution of 16K with DSC compression, up to 10K without compression, or two 8K signals at 120 Hz and HDR simultaneously.

The user also linked a site containing a message thread, which shows changes to AMD video card drivers.

The Video Electronics Standard Association(VESA) informed that the DisplayPort 2.0 supported display monitors would be available by the fourth quarter of 2021. The new interface launch was then delayed due to the pandemic.

The new DisplayPort 2.0 interface promises higher refresh rates, 8K monitors, and more. A few earlier models like the Ryzen 6000 series are also being designed to support the same.

The release of the new standard will likely be along with the launch of the next-gen chipsets. With the Radeon 7000 release coming closer, the monitors might be ready for the world soon!
