AMD is planning on announcing their upcoming high-end mobile GPU soon

The era of the RDNA 3-based GPUs is taking off quite well with the three main dies in use – the Navi 31, Navi 32, and Navi 33. AMD is keen on adding another powerful mobile GPU to the RDNA 3-based GPU lineup soon.

As per reports by Wccftech, AMD is planning on unveiling the mobile GPU named Radeon RX 7900M on October 19^th. This GPU will be based on the Navi 31 die, reportedly featuring in a cut-down form.

Remember that the cut-down Navi 31 die will not be as powerful as the desktop-grade GRE, XT, or XTX variants. However, it is anticipated to be much more potent than the Navi 31 SKUs, including the Radeon RX 7800 XT.

For the indoctrinated, since the RDNA 3 GPU was announced, AMD has announced mobile graphical SKUs based on the Navi 33 architecture as a part of the Radeon RX 7600M/S series. These cards have not been widely distributed as discrete GPUs in the market.

The Navi 32-based GPUs came with 60 Compute Units and were a good choice for a discrete laptop GPU. The Radeon RX 7900M, which will reportedly be announced on October 19^th, will feature the Navi 31 die with 72 Compute Units.

It is speculated that the card will feature a smaller die size than the regular Navi 31, as seen in the RX 7900 GRE desktop GPU.

The RX 7600M/S could compete with the higher-end Nvidia GPUs like RTX 4050/4060. The leak also reveals that the RX 7900M will feature 4608 Stream Processors. This is close to double the core count of RX 7600M XT.

The choice of capping the Compute Units to 72 will ensure that the TGP remains south of 175 W – a standard upper limit for laptop GPU power consumption.

While all of this is mere speculation, all hints point towards a Navi-based Radeon RX 7900M on October 19^th, along with the very powerful Threadripper PRO 7000 by AMD.
