AMD’s Ryzen 5000 series of Zen 3 CPUs have been available in the market for over a year now, with the Ryzen 5 5600x, 5800, 5800X, 5900, 5900X, and 5950X offering high performance intended for both mainstream and enthusiast usage. The company is now ready to evolve the line into the next phase, as reports have indicated that a series of Ryzen 5000 Threadripper PRO CPUs could be released early in 2022.
These reports come from Videocardz, which has cited an anonymous source labeled Disclosuzen, which states these Ryzen 5000 PRO CPUs will officially launch on March 8th, 2022. They say that five different CPUs will be released in total, but it is unclear if all five will be released on the same date.
The alleged names of the upcoming CPUs are Ryzen 5 PRO 5995WX, 5975WX, 5965WX, 5955WX, and 5945WX.
Details for these Threadripper CPUs are scarce, but there are rumored cores and threads for each rumored processor. Going in decreasing order, the chips will feature 64 cores and 128 threads, 32 cores and 64 threads, 24 cores and 48 threads, 16 cores and 32 threads, and 12 cores and 24 threads.
All five CPUs are reported to have a maximum TDP of 280W. Only a single CPU’s base clock has been rumored, and no turbo clock has been revealed. The base clock is at 3.6 GHz for the Ryzen 5000 PRO 5975, the second most powerful chip in the line-up.
The lack of details about these new CPUs lends credibility to another aspect of the Videocardz’ report. AMD board partners feel these new Threadripper PRO CPUs are coming far too late and have been delayed from a year of their initial launch plans. The delay could be explained due to a change in manufacturing, shifting to AMD’s new Zen3+ 6nm chiplets for the CPUs.
If the rumors are true, we can expect some official word from AMD on the Threadripper PRO CPUs soon, perhaps even during the upcoming CES 2022 in January.
AMD will need to make the event count as their competitor, Intel, is planning to expand their Alder Lake line-up of CPUs. But, given the current pandemic situation, many CES partners have been canceling their plans.
