The laptop market is getting a boom of AMD’s Phoenix series offerings. However, the choice remains limited, with only a selected list of board manufacturers who ship the Phoenix APUs.
Last week was the speculated and announced release date for the Ryzen 7040 “Phoenix” series CPUs. The first laptops set to come out in March had their dates pushed back to April, suggesting they were working to align with platform readiness.
AMD’s representative has confirmed that they have ramped up their production of the Ryzen 7040 series chips. AMD’s OEM partners have started shipping those models. These will primarily be the higher end 7040HS systems. Over the next couple of weeks, they will start shipping the models out.
They also mentioned that they had started shipping out systems in the previous quarter, ie, Q1 of 2023. This means that we can reasonably estimate that if OEMs start shipping the first systems in May and AMD has mentioned “next several weeks,” the systems are going to be available towards mid of May in limited quantities.
It has to be kept in mind that most of the Phoenix CPUs mentioned are in the form of handheld consoles from ASUS, AOKZOE, GPDWIN, and Ayaneo. Various mini-PCs also house the same chips, launching in May.
Limited retailers have made available a single model of the ASUS ROG 14’’ gaming laptop featuring the Ryzen 9 7940HS with 16GB DDR5 and Nvidia RTX 5060. It comes in at USD 1599.99.
This pricing is slightly higher than the Chinese Listed price of USD 1000. This is good news for gamers looking to use AMD Phoenix APU-powered laptops.
These APUs are top-of-the-line with great performance and efficiency. The chips have a TDP of 35-45 W and a maximum of 16 threads.
This has one of the best-integrated graphics solutions that provides excellent performance at a relatively reasonable price, given the exorbitant pricing in the PC market right now.
